OVERALL JOB FUNCTION
Reporting to the PHIA Team Supervisor, the PHIA Interviewerwill be responsible for conducting interviews from selected households. The interviewer will ensure that he/she attains written consent from participants before taking part in the survey. Nurse Interviewers will collect blood samples from participants and perform different points of care tests, prepare and store the samples for transportation to the laboratory for additional testing.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Visit identified Enumeration Areas (EA) and selected households according to LEPHIA sample design and as assigned by Team Leader.
• Conduct individual interviews by administering LEPHIA approved questionnaire.
• Obtain consent from all individuals interviewed, by using LEPHIA approved consent forms.
• Handle and fill in questionnaire through digital device (tablets), ensuring data is consistent across tables and that all interviews / tablets are adequately completed.
• Assure confidentiality of all information provided by survey participants.
• Study and understand all instruction included in the Interviewers Manual / LEPHIA Standard of Procedures
(SOP) and provided through training.
• Coordinate with the Team Leader on how to carry out the survey and to report daily work done.
• Inform the Team Leader of interviews completed and partially completed on a daily basis.
• Schedule and inform Team Leader of return visits for any incomplete interview.
• Provide referral to Care and Treatment and Social Services to all eligible survey participants.
• Collect, handle and assure safety of all material needed for field work
• Accompany Team Leader for community entry meetings
• Report any unanticipated incident to the Team Leader
• Additional duties for nurse interviewer:
- Conduct blood draw from eligible survey participants, both adult and children.
- Conduct points of care tests (HIV Rapid Test, CD4 count) within the selected household whilst maintaining confidentiality
- Safely store blood samples and assure timely transport to selected laboratories

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or Diploma in General Nursing
• Bachelor’s Degree in Statistics/Demography/Economics or related field
• Previous experience as an enumerator / interviewer in any national survey like Demographic Health survey
(DHS) or Population and Housing Census is highly advantageous.
• Experience in counselling and testing is very advantageous
• Expertise to enter, transcribe, record, maintain data/ information in written or electronic forms.
• Basic understanding of technology such as mobile phones, tablets and computers.
• Strong interpersonal and communication (written and spoken) skills in English as well as Sesotho.
• Personable and able to build trusting relationships
• Able to elicit information without leading the interviewee
• Proven ability to obtain and maintain confi dentiality
• Ability to gather information in an objective, appropriate and sensitive way by carefully observing, by actively listening, by paying full attention to the situation and the information of the various sources, and understand the points being made.
• Ability to pose appropriate questions with sensitivity to gender, children, and vulnerable communities, acting
with understanding, and interpreting reactions in a culturally sensitive way.
• Ability to meet tight deadlines and successfully manage multiple assignments concurrently.
• Strong organizational and analytical skills, good attention to detail.
• Ability to problem solve and work as part of a team.
• For nurse interviewers: able to draw blood from small children and infants
