The United Nations University Vice-Rectorate in Europe (UNU-ViE):
UNU-ViE concentrates on relationships between advancing science and technology for human security. In addition to its scientific core mandate, it administers the central units providing service to UNU entities in Bonn. The central administration units include Finance, Human Resources, Information Communication Technology, Communication Services, Procurement and General Administration. SCYCLE Programme:
UNU ViE-SCYCLE will be launched on 1 January 2016 succeeding the former UNU-IAS Operating Unit SCYCLE. It will be an independent Programme hosted by UNU-ViE in Bonn (Germany). SCYCLE envisions to enable societies to reduce the environmental load from production, use and the disposal of ubiquitous goods and especially electrical and electronic equipment to sustainable levels by means of independent and both comprehensive and practical research providing more thorough fact bases for policy development and decision making. Therefore SCYCLE activities are focused on the development of sustainable production, consumption and disposal patterns for electrical and electronic equipment, as well as other ubiquitous goods. SCYCLE leads the global e-waste discussion and advances sustainable e-waste management strategies based on life-cycle thinking.
Fundraiser for the Solving the e-waste problem (Step) Initiative:
Step is an international initiative committed to solving the world’s waste electrical and electronic problem. Step provides a forum for discussion among its members and Step members also team up for concrete project implementation. Step members are drawn from industry, government, NGOs, environmental groups and academia. Membership by now comprises more than 55 member organizations. Step members contribute with an annual membership fee to the maintenance of the initiative.

Step invites applications for a Fundraiser. The vacancy comprises of two parts.
Responsibilities:
Part I
Under the overall authority of the Vice Rector in Europe and the direct supervision of the Executive Secretary of the Step Initiative, the successful candidate will carry out the following tasks:

• Familiarize with Step’s operating structure and membership as well as its priority deliverables and work plans.
• Identify key funding gaps both related to core funding of Step as well as its financial needs in conjunction with project work.
• Work closely with the Executive Secretary of the Step Initiative and the Step Steering Committee and write applications for specific projects.
• Support in the acquisition of new members.
This is an employment on a 9-months Consultant Contract with the Step Initiative through UNU-ViE SCYCLE. The remuneration will be € 25,000 on a lump sum basis.

Based on the success of the above, a long-term position will be offered with the following responsibilities:
• Develop a fundraising strategy and roadmap with priority fundraising targets and responsibilities over the next 5 years for discussion with Step’s Steering Committee.
• Work closely with the Executive Secretary of the Step Initiative and the Step Steering Committee to help Step achieve its strategic objectives through grants and major gifts to fund priority projects and increase Step’s core funding.
• Strategically manage Step’s relationships with grant-making organizations and build personal relationships with key contacts at grant-making organizations.
• Develop an understanding of Step’s work and together with the Executive Secretary of the Step Initiative and the Step Steering Committee build a pool of strategic projects to match to funding opportunities.
• Identify new sources of funding by:
Prospect research to identify and profile potential new individual donors
Finding new trusts and known funders with new strategies and funding streams
Monitoring public sector tenders to identify opportunities
Researching international grant makers
• Support Step members in writing project applications
• Take the lead role in donor stewardship, including co-ordinating funder reports and feedback, accrediting funders in Step reports etc.

• Higher degree in relevant field including international development, political science, environmental management, business administration or other
• Proven successful track record in fundraising for UN agencies or non-governmental organizations
• Excellent written and oral communication skills (English)
• Good knowledge of bilateral and multi-lateral donors, funds and foundations in relation to sustainability and resources management
• Good IT skills, notably Microsoft Office

This is a locally recruited post and no relocation allowances apply. The successful candidate will be employed under a local contract and will not hold international civil servant status nor is he/she a “staff member” as defined in the United Nations Staff Rules and Regulations.
