HANDYMAN
Liqhobong Mining Development Company (Pty) Ltd, a subsidiary of Firestone Diamonds PLC, invites suitably qualified and competent Basotho to apply for the vacant position of Handyman.
Job purpose
To provide support for the smooth running of mining operations by ensuring repair and maintenance of buildings and other brick and mortar structures. The incumbent will offer specialized knowledge in building maintenance and upgrades to comply with environmental, safety and health procedures of the mine.
Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of the Maintenance Planner, the incumbent will carry out the following duties and responsibilities;
• Attend to maintenance and repairs tasks on a daily basis with close supervision from direct report;
• Update staff and contractors of service outages and scheduled shutdowns in own area of work;
• During evacuations, assist emergency response teams in assessing building condition, shutting off utilities and delivering status report to team leaders;
• Ensure compliance and adherence to SHE policies, programmes, practices, safety standards and regulations;
• Complete a risk assessment prior to starting any job or task and take preventative measures;
• Comply with legislative and operational requirements;
• Obtain required permits to work and liaise with other relevant departments / sections as required.
Legal and other requirements
• Police clearance and medical examinations of fitness as per the inherent requirements of the position;
• Physically fit
• Free from vertigo and not colour blind
Qualifications and experience
• 3 – 5 years’ experience as a Handyman in a plant or construction environment;
• COSC or equivalent plus a relevant trade certificate;
• Plumbing certificate will be an added advantage;
• In-depth knowledge of equipment selection and maintenance;
• Knowledge of heavy duty construction procedures
