Warehouse Operations Manager
The role
Manage the Warehouse Operations in Burgersfort (DS & MA warehouse) as well as day to day distribution from Burgersfort to Consignments , Contracts and Customers in the Eastern Limb.
Key performance areas
1. MAINTAINS SAFETY AND ENVIRONMENT COMPLIANCE
- Oversees adherence to all relevant Sandvik Policies and Procedures by relevant staff, and provides proactive and visible safety leadership in all daily activities.
- Initiates and participates in safety improvement activities as and when necessary.
- Sets highest standards of personal safety and demonstrates a proactive approach to building a sustainable safety culture within the warehouse.
- Reports all accidents, incidents, and injuries immediately and manages close-out of these incidents/accident investigations.
2. MANAGES WAREHOUSE OPERATIONS (INBOUND OR OUTBOUND)
- Chairs daily start up meetings in process work area.
- Allocates resources to processes according to daily plan requirements.
- Develops, maintains and ensures adherence to all procedures within assigned area of responsibility within the warehouse (inbound or outbound).
- Optimises / improves the operational efficiency performance in area of responsibility within the warehouse continuously to drive high productivity levels.
- Oversees the infrastructure integrity and planning in the relevant area of responsibility to ensure smooth day to day running of all equipment and processes.
- Continuously improves and manages the controls to limit shrinkage risk in relevant area of responsibility.
- Continuously improves and manages the process flows in relevant area of responsibility.
- Facilitates smooth interaction with warehouse stakeholders e.g. Control tower, Inventory, Freight, Logistics and Operational performance teams.
- Supports the Operational performance team in executing continuous improvement projects.
- Facilitates and implements standardisation to global processes & procedures as required.
3. FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
- Provides input to the operational budgets for the relevant warehouse area and functions in Wingfield Park.
- Manages operational expenses within the annual budget constraints.
- Maintains and manages warehouse processes to limit financial risks within area of responsibility e.g. Proof of Delivery (POD) handling, goods returns, credit, receiving & dispatch processes.
- Provides input monthly to financial reporting to senior management on area of responsibility.
- Leads and participates in cost reduction initiatives in conjunction with Indirect Purchasing function.
4. MANAGES HUMAN RESOURCES
- Facilitates a sustainable workforce through a formal succession plan using and applying the most up to date training and development methodology.
- Responsible for the recruitment of suitable staff to ensure optimal running of warehouse operations.
- Manages the team to ensure optimal performance, including time & attendance, performance management, disciplinary processes, etc.
- Executes the annual Sandvik Employee survey (SEmp) action plan continuously.
Your profile
- A minimum of 10 years' experience in a Warehousing/Distribution/Supply Chain environment with a minimum of 5 years in a similar management position.
- B Degree (NQF Level 7) / Diploma (NQF level 6) in Supply Chain Management or a related field or equivalent
- Minimum: Code 8 Driver's License
Training required
Minimum:
- Excellent MS Office skills
- MS Excel e.g. pivot tables, V-Lookups
- Data Analysis
- Previous ERP or WMS system experience
- Legislation of South Africa e.g. OHS Act; Labour Relations Act etc.
Ideal prior exposure to:
- Aurora, DI and Qlikview highly desired
- Sandvik policies and procedures
- (Sandvik) EHS management systems
- African Export Legislation
