Mission Description:
The Lesotho Evangelical Church in Southern Africa(LECSA) is the PC(USA)s primary partner in the Kingdom of Lesotho. Founded in 1833 through the Paris Evangelical Mission Society, LECSA currently has a membership of about 260,000 in 109 parishes, including 12 in South Africa. Morija Theological Seminary is the primary institution that LECSA uses to train its clergy.

Position description:
Librarian for Morija Theological Seminary.

Essential position tasks and responsibilities:
The librarian will be responsible for maximizing the library’s usefulness as a resource for faculty and students of Morija Theological Seminary, including both the development of a long-term strategic vision for the library and its use, and also efficient day-to-day operation. This would include oversight of traditional library functions such as acquisitions, cataloguing, lending policy development and enforcement, records management, etc. It would also involve working with students and faculty members to identify and implement new ways of enhancing the usefulness and value of the facility’s collections and services.

Required education and languages:
Appointee is expected to have a bachelor’s degree. A Master’s Degree in Library Science (or equivalent) is desired but not required. Appointee will be expected to communicate effectively in English.

Required experience, licenses, and certifications:
None required; multiple years practical experience in library management strongly preferred.

Required ecclesiastical status:
PC(USA) Presbyterian Minister of Word and Sacrament, or

Minister of another denomination

Length of service and preferred starting date:
Two years, starting 2017.

Housing:
The Lesotho Evangelical Church will make housing available in Morija. The volunteer is responsible for costs of water, electricity or other utilities.

Financial Accountability Facilitator

Position description:
The Financial Accountability Facilitator will work with the Lesotho Evangelical Church (LEC) Administrator, to whom he or she will be immediately accountable, to build the LECs capacity to exercise good stewardship over its finances and other resources and to enhance the accountability of the central office and other national denominational entities to the church as a whole.

Essential position tasks and responsibilities:
In particular, the Financial Accountability Facilitator will assist the Administrator, and any other LEC financial personnel or consultants designated by the Administrator, to:

1.Assist the Administrator to ensure that all of the LECs accounting records up to date;

2.Analyze existing financial accounting and reporting mechanisms to identify any weaknesses in current systems and procedures, and to develop and implement strategies to address these deficiencies, including appropriate systems of internal controls;

3.Ensure that the LEC adheres to generally accepted principles of accounting and record-keeping and establishes mechanisms to promote continuing compliance over the long-term;

4.Develop a written financial procedures manual for the LEC, including standards of record-keeping and reporting;

5.Develop and implement a program of training to promote awareness and understanding of and compliance with these principles and procedures among LEC staff and structures;

6.Review the existing assets and revenue generating activities of the LEC and make recommendations for ways to harness these resources more effectively to enhance their contribution, as well as identifying potential new areas for revenue generation;

7.Work with LEC officials to design a clear and appropriate structure for the Office of the Administrator that reflects both the financial and managerial aspects of the office;

8.Facilitate staff development in the Office of the Administrator by assessing and evaluating the competency of existing staff, designing a staff training plan for building the capacity of staff, identifying areas for the recruitment of new staff, and assisting the Administrator to develop relevant job descriptions for these posts;

9.Identify other ways of improving the overall accountability and transparency of the LEC in financial matters and develop and implement strategies to effect such improvements.

Required education and languages:
Appointee is expected to have a bachelors degree in accounting, economics, public administration, or other related field. An MBA or other relevant advanced degree or certificate would be desired but not required. Appointee will be expected to communicate effectively in English.

Required experience, licenses, and certifications:
Appointee should have at least five years experience in accounting, financial administration, organizational development and management, project management, or related field.

Required ecclesiastical status:
Membership in a PC(USA) Congregation.

Length of service and preferred starting date:
Two years, starting 2017.

Geographical location of this position:
