Do you have what it takes to tackle HIV in your
own community?
Are you passionate about making a positive
difference?
Do you have a great idea for helping people
living with HIV to access treatment?
Are you aged 18-26?
If you can answer yes to all of the above, we
want to hear from you!
What is Jala Lesotho?
Lesotho has the world’s second highest prevalence
of HIV in the world (23.2%). This has a devastating
impact on families and communities, and has held
back the country’s development. Over the last ten
years Kick4Life has delivered a range of projects
to provide HIV education, testing and support for
those living with HIV.
We are now excited to be launching a new initiative
to provide six exceptional young leaders with an
incredible opportunity to set up projects in their
own communities. This two-year project includes:
• Financial support to set up a project tackling
HIV in your own community. The project should
specifically aim to identify young people living
with HIV, support them on to medical treatment
and support adherence.
• Receiving ongoing technical support from
Kick4Life to help you set up and run your
project. This will include planning/strategy,
finance, HR, fundraising and M&E as well as
improving knowledge and understanding of
HIV.
• An annual residential forum at the Kick4Life
Centre for the six young leaders to come
together, share experience and learn key skills.
• Support to become an M-PESA agent to
generate sustainable funds for your project.
It is hoped that after the two-year period that
you will be in a position to secure funding to
continue your project or to use the skills you have
developed elsewhere.
‘Jala’ is a Sesotho word that means to nurture and
grow.
Who are we looking for?
We need exceptional young leaders with the
passion to make a difference. You must have
experience of leadership and have demonstrated
a desire to address HIV in the past. You will need
excellent organizational skills, determination and
a willingness to learn and work hard. You must
also be responsible - if you are selected you will
become an ambassador of Kick4Life in your
community and in this capacity we expect that
you will uphold our values and principles.
You will also need a great idea for identifying
those living with HIV and supporting them onto
treatment. This does not have to be sports related.
You can consider other engagement tools and
methods. Your idea could be simple, tried and
tested or highly innovative. It is vital that you
consider what local organizations and community
bodies you will partner with to make it work.
