Sourcing Specialist
The role
The Sourcing Specialist is responsible for the implementation and on-going support of sourcing strategies and tactics that are aligned with company goals for one or more summaries. To drive the strategic cost reduction effort. First line support to Sourcing Manager. Assists with managing a direct vendor base for the purpose of improving quality, delivery, and cost of goods. An important aspect of this role is maximizing supplier performance and supporting the company’s business plan.
Key performance areas
  • Documents performance to action plans and timelines for assigned sourcing projects.
  • Assist with identifying and developing new sourcing opportunities, both domestic and international
  • Work proactively with suppliers and personnel to drive savings from supply chain activities
  • Handle requests for information, proposals, and tendering processes.
  • Evaluates current and potential suppliers
  • Support category management initiatives
  • Negotiates with suppliers to meet quality, delivery, and cost objectives
  • Executes contract negotiation and development in coordination with Sourcing Manager
  • Work with Sourcing Manager to guarantee supply for all portfolios.
  • Maintain good relationships with suppliers as well as with employees in other departments
  • Ensure supplier compliance to Sandvik quality standards
  • Manage and review supplier performance on a regular basis.
  • Escalate and or resolve any supplier related issues
  • Work towards targets and deliverables set by Region Sourcing Manager
  • Control and manage the internal and external vendor application process for direct suppliers
  • Serve as primary contact person for direct vendors, confirming receipt of applications and acceptance/rejection thereof
  • Develop and manage supplier performance in coordination with Sourcing Manager
  • Ensure prompt and discreet notification to management and/or the Ethics Hotline of any observation of illegal acts within the Sandvik supply chain
Your profile
  • Matric (Grade 12) or equivalent qualification
  • Minimum five years of prior combined supply chain and sourcing experience.
  • Ability to work independently as well as a team player.
  • Experience and proficiency in MS office. Experience with supplier contract management, procurement and or vendor management functions within an organization. Experience on network systems preferably Aurora, DI, Lotus Notes, Report Manager, Partner Manager, QlikView and SPD (Sourcing Projects Database.
  • Individual must have strong communication skills (both written & verbal).
  • Must have excellent people skills.
  • Must have project management skills.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Must have ability to multi-task and work under pressure with quick problem solving skills and strong attention to detail.
  • Must be comfortable working with data, & vendor tender comparisons.
  • Vast knowledge of BBB-EE and the financial implications.
  • Strategic, with a broad perspective on the issues, the ability to consider the long-term significance and consequences of decisions and to act accordingly.
