icipe is seeking to appoint an outstanding, dynamic, and self-motivated Gender Specialist to support a major initiative targeted at reducing youth unemployment in regional Ethiopia through the deployment of icipe technologies in silk and honey production, outreach activities, and youth training in enterprise development. The selected candidate will be based at icipe’s Ethiopia office on the ILRI campus. This is a two-year contract, renewable after successfully completing a six-month probation period of the first contract. A competitive and generous compensation package, including children education allowance up to university first degree, health and life insurance, generous pension, housing and transport allowances, duty free privileges, home leave and relocation allowances, and much more, will be offered to the right candidate. Job Description
The Gender Specialist will lead the process for advancing gender equality outcomes, and support the development of systematic measures for assessing the impact of project interventions on gender—together with gender data collection and analysis—to ensure that the overall emphasis on women’s empowerment is included in all project documentation and activities.
 
Primary Responsibilities
  • Ensure learning and analysis related to gender are captured and incorporated into project activities and planning.
  • Provide guidance on the use of performance indicators and evaluations, with the intention of reflecting progress toward gender equality outcomes and impacts throughout the life of the project.
  • Assist in the design of gender analyses to: (a) assess gaps between men and women in the target project areas, (b) provide recommendations on empowering leadership and expertise of women and girls, and devise strategies for meeting their needs.
  • Ensure identified indicators incorporate consideration of gender sensitivities,geographic focus, population segmentation, and similar cross cutting strategic issues of importance to MCF/icipe/Ethiopia.
  • Establish gender disaggregated information requirements for data collection activities and reports, and highlight gender-based constraints and issues in connection with, for example, all assessments, surveys, and studies.
  • Support development of curriculum and training materials by embedding gender concepts.
Requirements/Qualifications
  • A master’s degree (or equivalent advanced qualification) in a relevant discipline.
  • Five (5) years’ professional experience.

Reporting
This position reports to icipe’s Project Team Leader.
 
The selected candidate should be available to start as soon as possible.
