Communications Assistant (Mass media)
Overview:
Jhpiego in Lesotho, in support of and in collaboration with the MOH, provides Voluntary
Medical Male Circumcision (VMMC) training, service provision and quality assurance
technical assistance in Lesotho. Jhpiego seeks applications from qualified applicants
to assist the Communications team with the development and implementation of MC
communications activities targeting mass media.
This position is based in Maseru and reports to the Communication Officer. This position will
require frequent travel throughout Lesotho
Responsibilities:
• Work closely with the Jhpiego VMMC team, including the Communication Officer, to
develop and design approaches to engage the media to communicate VMMC key
messages to the community.
• Identify appropriate media channels to disseminate information for different target
audiences.
• Train and orientate media of VMMC terminologies and approaches
• Develop and design radio programs, jingles and announcements
• Conduct frequent meetings with media personnel to share key messages on VMMC
and other relevant issues
• Draft press release and other information sharing materials for media personnel
• Frequent assessment of the usage of all channels and their relevance
• Collaborate with local organizations to conduct demand creation activities to ensure
effective dissemination of key messages.
• Facilitate the achievement of targets for the program and compile reports as required.
• Contribute to the overall implementation of activities and the development of new
program approaches.
Required and qualifications:
• A minimum of a diploma in Mass media, media relations, Adult education or equivalent.
• At least 2 years’ experience in working in community development, public health, or
other relevant fields.
• Knowledge of media in Lesotho
• Experience in HIV and AIDS and other public health programmes preferred.
• Strong oral and writing skills in Sesotho and English.
• Willingness and availability to travel within Lesotho
• Demonstrated self-management skills (e.g. motivation, working under pressure,
adaptability)
