LESOTHO FREIGHT AND BUS SERVICES CORPORATION
ADVERTISEMENT FOR THE POSITION OF MANAGING DIRECTOR
JOB TITLE: MANAGING DIRECTOR
REPORT TO: BOARD OF DIRECTORS
Lesotho Freight and Bus Services Corporation was established by order
No.16 of 1987 to provide transport and freight haulage within and outside
of Lesotho, particularly to those remote and under-served areas.
GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTIONS
Under the general supervision of the Board of Directors the Managing
Director is an overall overseer of the Corporation, who is to drive the
strategic vision and mission of the Organization.
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
1. Leadership
• Liaise with the Board in developing and reviewing visions and strategic
plans to guide the Corporation.
• Identify, assess and inform the Board of internal and external issues
that affect the Corporation.
• Acts as a professional and technical advisor to the Board on all aspects
of public transportation field.
• Implements decisions of the Board
• Conduct official correspondence on behalf of the Board as appropriate
and when as appropriate with the Board.
2. Operations, Planning and Management
• Formulate Policies, implement, and monitor and review them.
• Review business’ organizational structure and operational
performance.
• Review existing policies on an ongoing basis for approval by the Board.
• Draw, implement and monitor organizational corporate strategy.
• Develop operational plans annually that incorporate goals and
objectives that work towards the strategic direction of the Corporation.
• Lead and manage the Corporation to achieve the expectation of the
Nation, the Board and the Government of Lesotho.
• Focus on core business of the Corporation and also analyze the
stakeholders interests and concerns;
• Provide the necessary leadership to all heads of divisions in the
direction of meeting the established corporate goals;
• Recommend improvements on established policies and management
systems;
• Ensure that the performance standards or targets that are established
annually as part of the planning process are monitored and/or
evaluated and reviewed at agreed intervals and appropriate action
taken on deviant results.
• Oversee the efficient and effective day to day operation of the
Corporation.
• Prepare or cause to be prepared, periodic reports that will appraise
the Board and Government on the general performance of the
Corporation.
• Ensure harmonious relationships between Board, Executive and the
Staff.
3. Financial Planning and Management
• Work with Finance Manager and the Board to prepare a Comprehensive
Budget.
• Approve expenditures within the authority delegated by the Board.
• Ensure that sound marketing and accounting procedures are followed
at all times.
• Ensure that the financial statements of the Corporation are audited
timely and the ensuing queries are settled promptly.
• Administer the funds of the Corporation accordingly to approved
Budgets and monitor Monthly cash flows.
• Provide the Board with comprehensive, regular reports on the
revenues and expenditures of the Corporation
• Ensure that the Corporation complies with tax obligations
4. Human Resource Planning and Management
• Determine staffing requirements for the Corporation in order to
improve service delivery.
• Oversee the implementation of the Human resource policies,
procedures and practices including the job description for all positions.
• Implement a performance management tool for all staff, which
includes monitoring the performance of staff on an ongoing basis and
conduct annual performance reviews.
• Coach and mentor staff as appropriate to improve performance.
5. Others
• Identify and evaluate risks to the Corporation’s properties, finances
and image, and implement measures to control the risks.
• Think strategically.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
• A holder of Master’s degree in Business Administration (M.BA),
Transport or Economics;
• At least five years’ experience working in a leadership and or
managerial positions
• Experience in transport or business related sector will be an added
advantage

issues/cases.

interests of the organization. Master himself or herself. Address the
Corporation’s dynamics and create a shared vision. Clarify purpose and
priorities. Communicate efficiently and efficiently. Build and motivate
committed team. Act as a role model at work setting.

The ability to adapt and work effectively within a variety of situations.
IMPACT AND INFLUENCE
The awareness of how organizational issues, policies and decisions impact
on public interests/concerns, as well as being sensitive to the differing
needs/agendas of multiple stakeholders.
LISTENING, UNDERSTANDING AND RESPONDING
Acting to understand other people or situations. It involves hearing and
understanding not only spoken or written information, but also unspoken
or partly expressed thoughts, feelings and concerns of others and
responding appropriately and effectively.
KNOWLEDGE
Knowledge of Corporate governance principles
REMUNERATION AND BENEFITS
• A competitive remuneration package, commensurate with the
responsibilities attached to the position will be offered
• Fringe benefits for the position include, but are not limited to:

3. 25% gratuity on completion contract
CONTRACT DURATION
• Three year contract
