Communications Assistant (Material Development)
Overview:
Jhpiego in Lesotho, in support of; and in collaboration with the MOH, provides Voluntary
Medical Male Circumcision (VMMC) training, service provision and quality assurance
technical assistance in Lesotho. Jhpiego seeks applications from qualified applicants to
assist the Communications team with the design, development, and implementation of MC
communications materials, including those employing both mass media and interpersonal
communication.
This position is based in Maseru and reports to the Communication Officer. This position will
require frequent travel throughout Lesotho
Responsibilities:
• Work closely with the Jhpiego VMMC team, including the Communication Officer, to
develop and design IEC material on VMMC for different stakeholders
• Liaise with the MoH message development committee to design and pretest all
material produced
• Identify material development needs for different target audience and stakeholders
• Manage the distribution of communication materials to create visibility and increase
awareness and knowledge of VMMC services.
• Lead the pretesting of all print materials
• Frequently monitor and evaluate of the usage and impact of materials and messages
• Collaborate with local organizations to ensure effective dissemination of key messages.
• Facilitate the achievement of targets for the program and compile reports as required.
• Contribute to the overall implementation of activities and the development of new
program approaches.
Required qualifications and experience:
• A minimum of a diploma in material development ( design course or equivalent)
• Experience in designing IEC material for community development, public health, or
other relevant fields.
• At least 2 years’ experience in community work/mobilization on health related
interventions.
• Experience in HIV and AIDS and other public health programmes preferred.
• Knowledge of pre-testing of material produced
• Strong oral and writing skills in Sesotho and English.
• Willingness and availability to travel within Lesotho 80% of the time
• Demonstrated self-management skills (e.g. motivation, working under pressure,
adaptability)
