OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH NURSE Job at LIQHOBONG MINING DEVELOPMENT COMPANY


Liqhobong Mining Development Company (Pty) Ltd, a subsidiary of Firestone Diamonds PLC, invites suitably qualified, self-driven, results oriented and competent Basotho to apply for the vacant position of Occupational Health Nurses (2 positions).

Job purpose

The incumbent is responsible for the development and administration of efficient and professional operations of occupational health services. Specifically, he/she administers primary prevention of injury or disease by identifying the need to assess and plan interventions to modify environments, systems of work or change working practices in order to reduce the risk of hazardous exposure.

Responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of the Occupational Health Coordinator, the incumbent will carry out the following duties and responsibilities;
Collaborates with relevant departments in the identification, conception and correction of work factors, choice of individual protective equipment, prevention of mine wide injuries and diseases as well as environmental health issues
Identifies early changes in working practices, and worker concerns over health and safety and present such to management thus acting as catalyst for changes in the workplace that lead to primary prevention
Provide initial emergency care of workers injured at work prior to transfer of injured worker to hospital or the arrival of the external emergency services
Monitor employees with chronic diseases and follow up on their treatment requirements.
Assist in investigations regarding any outbreaks and increasing illnesses on the Mine and communicate with Occupational Health Coordinator
Reports all the Health Care Program activities to the Occupational Health Coordinator
Assess workers’ health care needs and establish a nursing diagnosis and formulate appropriate nursing care plans to meet the needs
Contributes to the workplace health management by analyzing, interpreting, planning and implementing strategies to achieve specific goals
Provides advice on a wide range of health issues and particularly on their relationship to working ability, health and safety at work
Participate in Occupational Hygiene and Health surveys
Follow up with Supervisors that all the defects detected during the medical examinations are corrected and monitored.
Conduct workplace inspections to identify any possible health hazards to immediate Supervisors
Plan rehabilitation strategies to ensure safe return to work for employees who have been absent from work due to ill health or injury
Assist in managing corrective and preventive actions emanating from drills and emergency responses and maintain records and reports;
Assist with the procurement of drugs for the clinic;
Compile and submit accurate and concise reports on all sectional activities;
Ensure compliance to SHE Integrated Management Systems and best practices.

Legal and other requirements

Police clearance and medical examinations of fitness;
Valid driver’s license;

Qualifications and experience

3-5 years Occupational Health and Primary Health Nursing experience
Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Nursing Registered and member of relevant
Regulatory Body;
Solid experience in emergency procedures in mining, large plant or manufacturing environment.

Understanding of state regulations applicable to occupational environmental health and safety
Knowledge of Occupational and Primary Health Care
Knowledge of HIV/Aids Care
Knowledge of Emergency Care
Calmness in crisis situations / trauma handling skills
Organizational understanding/ industry risks; Accuracy and completeness
Safety awareness
High level involvement and reporting; Computer skills;
Emergency response and crisis management Problem analysis and problem solving skills
