EHS Auditor
The role
Evaluates compliance to Environmental, Health & Safety legislation International Standards , as well as adherence to the prescribed EHS legal compliance framework on Mining Systems Project Sites.
Key performance areas
- Evaluates implementation of relevant EHS legal requirements on Mining Systems project sites.
- Conducts inspections / audits to ensure that employees of Sandvik and sub-subcontractors working in accordance with the prescribed method statement / hazard identification and risk assessment.
- Carries out audits on specific, pre-predeterminedk performed.
- Prepares audit reports and submits to the relevant management as per procedures (e.g. Site Manager and Manager: EHS).
- Provides guidance and monitors the OHSAS 18001:2007 and ISO 14001:2004 systems to ensure these are being carried out under the guidance of the relevant role players:
- Uses a supplied audit format to audit compliance.
- Submits the audit reports to the Manager: EHS.
- Evaluates the implementation of legislation i.e. duties of employee, duties of employer, etc.
- Provides guidance to sub-subcontractorsensure compliance to legal framework and management systems.
- Evaluates appointment processes to ensure legal appointments for sub-subcontractors in place for Sandvik project sites.
- Monitors investigations performed by the project EHS Officers to ensure the correct procedures are adhered to in accordance with Environmental, Health and Safety legislation and client requirements. This includes:
- Visiting site to investigate the incident and determine why the incident occurred.
- Identifying the factors and the responsible role players.
- Recommending preventative measures to ensure the incident does not re-occur
- Completes an investigation report and submit to relevant management (e.g. Site Manager, Manager: EHS).
- Monitors the completion or completes the employer’s report of an accident requiring medical treatment.
- Review and provide input to relevant EHS documentation has been approved accordingly.
- Ensure compliance to internal document change processes are followed though relating to specific ISO 14001:2004 and OHSAS 18001:2007 and approved accordingly.
- Compiles pre-prepared checklists and questionnaires based on audit type.
- Submits to relevant management as required.
- Produces reports in accordance with policies and procedures.
- Produces reports within the allocated time frame (Audit Schedule and audit turnaround times).
Your profile
- NQF4 Tertiary qualification in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent (Suitably qualified as articulated in the Employment Equity Act)
- Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment, Accident Investigation and Working at Heights certifications through an accredited provider
- Driver’s License
- Legal Liability Certificate for the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Mine Health and Safety Act and National Environmental Management legislation.
- Lead auditor (EHS)
- Environmental Law related qualification or certificate/diploma.
- Quality auditing skills will be an advantage.
- Extensive EHS auditing experience in mining and construction, preferably in mining bulk materials handling systems and project management (Minimum 5 - 8 years’ experience).
