Director Legal Services and is responsible for administration of all labour relations matters and
activities at the University. The office is further responsible for ensuring a fair and equitable

ADMINISTRATION:
A. Post No. 0512: Assistant Registrar (Industrial Relations) – Human Resources
Key Performance Areas:
2.1 Assists in the formulation of all Labour relations strategies policies and
procedures.
2.2 Ensures and develops an in-depth knowledge of industrial relations, Labour law
and best practices at the University.
2.3 Ensures compliance and adherence to applicable labour laws, regulations,
policies and procedures.
2.4 Analyses existing labour and industrial relations regulations, policies,
procedures and proposes reviews.
2.5 Provides practical training and guidance to management and employees on
procedures and applications associated with employment relations.
2.6 Inducts and orientates employees in employee relations issues.
2.7 Investigates alleged misconducts
2.8 Administers and coordinates disciplinary and grievance cases and attend such
hearings
2.9 Facilitates and prepares cases that have been referred to Directorate of Dispute
Prevention & Resolution (DDPR) for conciliation and arbitration.
2.10 Represents the University in conciliations and arbitrations and related
activities.
2.11 In the management of such cases, analyses the awards and proposes
appropriate interventions.
2.12 Represents Management in discussions/ negotiations with Unions.
2.13 Monitors employer / employee climate and submit relevant reports to
Management for improved industrial relation services.
2.14 Facilitates the implementation of regular meetings between Management and
the Unions.
Minimum Qualifications Requirements:
LLB or relevant degree in law with a focus on industrial relations or Labour law.
Post Graduate Diploma in Labour Law (Conciliation and Arbitration) will be an added
advantage.
Knowledge, Skills and Attributes:
• Three years experience at a supervisory/ managerial level
• Knowledge of the Labour laws
• Skills in policy development and interpretation
• Good conflict resolution and negotiation skills.
• Good communications skills
• Good interpersonal skills
• Good analytical and problem solving skills
• Ability to work as a member of a team.
• Computer Literacy is a requirement
