ROLE DESCRIPTION
The Credit Controller shall collect all monies due, outstanding and/or overdue, and allocate
payments as per the customer’s remittance. The Credit Controller is required to achieve the
collection target set monthly, quarterly and or annually.
The Credit Controller shall be responsible for maintaining the customer information, and
shall ensure that all invoice and/or statement information is correct, and reviewed at least
once every three months.
ACCOUNTABILITIES
Daily, Weekly and/or Monthly duties & responsibilities
• To achieve daily & weekly call target – minimum 2 calls (customer contacts) per month =
minimum 30 calls per day, to ensure every customer in each portfolio has been contacted
in every calendar month.
• To follow and apply the “Make the Call Count” collection methodology to ensure any
possible query which could delay or prohibit payment is addressed, and to facilitate
speedy resolution and prompt payment by the customer.
• To address and reduce overdue debt >60 days as a matter of priority on a weekly basis,
and consult with the direct Supervisor and/or the Customer Accounting Manager
immediately should it become apparent that the customer may not be able to settle the
outstanding debt Without good reason or a valid query pending.
• To allocate payments daily, once received,. No allocations may be done without a
remittance.
• No payment may be applied to old/ debt long outstanding in order to erase an overdue
amount, without the written consent and instruction from the customer/account holder.
Filing & Record keeping
Documentation & written communication shall be filed weekly in accordance with the DHL
policy/procedure regarding record keeping. Remittances actioned must be signed and filed.
Any written communication (in particular letters) must be filed by Month, alphabetically to
ensure it can be retrieved at any time, when requested to do so.
Adhoc
The Credit Controller shall from time to time be required to perform adhoc duties related to
the job function and position held, which may not specifically be explained or mentioned in
this document. These adhoc duties shall be agreed with and authorized by Management.
QUALIFICATION/
EXPERIENCE
• Minimum 3 years, recent credit control experience
• Excellent business communications skills both verbal & written
• Clear speaking voice
• Above average knowledge of: Excel, Word, and at least one other
• Accounts Receivable package (SUNSYSTEMS)
• High tolerance for stress
• Ability & availability to work extra hours (e.g. month end)
• Bcom/ Credit Management Diploma
• Full function credit control experience
• Previous Express and/or Freight Forwarding credit control experience
