The position is locally administered by UNDP but it financed centrally by the United Nations Department of Safety & Security (UNDSS). Under the dual technical guidance and supervision of the UNDSS Field Security Advisor, and administrative supervision of the Operations Manager, the UHF/
HF Radio Operator supports the implementation of the UNDSS security communications strategies of UN Lesotho the office to increase the security awareness of UN staff members in the security phase duty station. The Radio Operator promotes a client-oriented approach in UN Lesotho UNDP.
The Radio Operator works in close collaboration with both the UNDSS Security Team and the UNDP
Operations, and UN HQs, as required.
Summary of key functions:
Provision of radio operator services and VHF/HF radios, telephone s and cell phones
communications for implementation of security strategy
Administrative support to Radio Operator team
VI. Recruitment Qualifications
Education: Secondary education. Diploma/Certificate in telecommunications or
electronics desirable, but it is not a requirement.
Experience: 2 to 3 years of relevant experience a Radio Operator and/or communication
assistant, preferably with an international organization or NGO or in the army. Experience in the usage of computers and office software packages (MS Word, Excel, etc.).Knowledge of satellite based communication systems will be a plus
Language Requirements: Fluency in English and national language of the duty station.
