Associate, TB

The Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI formerly the Clinton HIV/AIDS Initiative) under the leadership of former President William Jefferson Clinton III has worked since 2002 to reduce the pricing of HIV/AIDS medicines and tests, and to work with governments around the world to further turn the tide on the disease by building the systems needed to deliver care and treatment.
CHAI is focused on large-scale impact on many of the largest barriers to effective treatment and care. Though CHAI's work on marketplace improvements is organization-wide, Access Program plays the lead role in managing relationships with suppliers and coordinating the flow of information between the demand and supply sides of the market.
CHAI seeks to appoint a highly motivated individual with outstanding credentials, analytical ability, and communication skills as an Associate to support CHAI Lesotho in its Access program, primarily targeting TB and MDR-TB, based in Lesotho.
The candidate must be able to function independently and flexibly and have a strong commitment to excellence. CHAI places great value on relevant personal qualities: resourcefulness, responsibility, tenacity, independence, energy, and work ethic.
The Associate will work to ensure the rapid scale-up and effective management of high-quality treatments for endemic diseases, focusing primarily on drugs and diagnostics for patients with tuberculosis (TB) and multi-drug resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB), and in the process becomes a trusted advisor to the Lesotho Ministry of Health (MOH). In addition, the Associate will also work to ensure that Lesotho has adopted best practices in forecasting and procurement of first line TB and MDR-TB drugs and diagnostics.
Specifically, key responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following:
  1. Serve as a trusted advisor to the MOH on a variety of drug-related and access-to-medicines topics (e.g., drug quality and pricing, procurement, forecasting, new product introduction, product trade-offs);
  2. Actively participate in the MOH's TB TWG meetings or Task Force groups which could involve helping draft various national strategies, policies, implementation plans and provide support related to costing strategic plans and assisting with surveys, etc.
  3. Assist with the creation of operational systems to support the wide-scale implementation of new drugs or diagnostic products (as applicable) such as conducting assessments or organizing trainings or improving quality assurance;
  4. Assist the MOH to build capacity on forecasting and quantification of both decentralized first line TB and MDR drugs and diagnostics either through leadership in forecasting workshops, participation in technical working groups (TWGs), or training on forecasting models in order to avoid stock-outs, reduce waste and minimize costs;
  5. Develop and leverage expertise in procurement best practices for TB medicines and diagnostic tools;
  6. Support MOH in the development and maintenance of high quality data management systems;
  7. Liaise with CHAI's global teams regarding information about new MDR TB drugs or diagnostic TB technologies in the pipeline and assist with in-country technical or operational evaluations or new product roll-out strategies to improve uptake of new drug formulations or diagnostics products as they become available;
  8. Disseminate information from CHAI and other sources on supply dynamics and access-to-medicines issues
  9. Assess opportunities for optimization of national treatment guidelines; assist with budget and scenario analysis at the request of the MOH; help develop strategies to advocate for the changes with the MOH and/or partners; and
  10. Support ongoing work and projects including the MDR-TB Pathways Study, strengthening the laboratory information systems and sample transport
