Development Officer
The above mentioned position exists in the World Vision Lesotho – Maphutseng ADP in Mohale’s Hoek District. Interested persons are invited to apply.
Reports to: ADP Manager.
Purpose of Positions:
To facilitate the participation of all stakeholders and lead the participation of children in the advancement of the critical issues, while building within them the culture of learning and responsibility. It will further identify community, children and stakeholders key capabilities and successfully engage in nurturing them to the benefit of all.
Communicate World Vision's Christian ethos and demonstrate a quality of spiritual life that is an example to others.
Duration: Three (3) Years
Major Responsibilities:
• Facilitate participation of all stakeholders in identifying potentials and applying those to achieve the set goals and continue to build networks for extensive support and skills acquisition for communities and youth.
• Engage the community and multi stakeholder process in the encouraging them to organize themselves into interest groups that work on different interventions in accordance to priority, skill, capability and resource availability.
• Support the capacity-building of the established community development structures to lead the development process outcomes.
• Create a platform of learning and exchange of ideas and resources among communities, external bodies and institutions with special focus to youth and children.
• In collaboration with the community and local leadership forge relations with other specialized institutions to determine the support and tap special skills for implementation of initiatives and activities.
• Organize and facilitate specific and relevant trainings for community, local leadership, youth and children on specific skills geared towards increase in productivity, increase in adoption of encouraged models and proper practices both health, education and development related.
• Together with staff, volunteers, stakeholders and local leadership follow up implementation of activities and provide guidance and reports.
Agricultural Issues
• Work closely with the Ministry of Agriculture personnel, local leadership, interest groups and Programme staff in the design of appropriate strategies for target population.
• Visit target communities on regular basis to discuss with farmers their problems and experience and learn about the communities, peoples’ agricultural practices and life situation.
• Where necessary train field staff and farmers on sustainable agricultural practices relevant to the increased production of food for the target communities.
HIV/AIDS Issues
• Work with the ADP Manager in assisting the ADP Community to integrate HIV/AIDS programs into their Area Development Programming.
• Facilitate the documentation of best practices and lessons learnt in HIV/AIDS response in the ADP
• Communicate capacity building needs to ADP Manager and National HIV/AIDS Coordinator.
• Monitor the implementation of HIV/AIDS programs in the ADP.
• Network and collaborate with other stakeholders in their responses to HIV/AIDS pandemic.
• Represent ADP in collaboration with other stakeholders both in the ADP and the District working on HIV/AIDS.
• Take part in daily devotions and work with others to build growth both professionally and spiritually.
Other Competencies/Attributes:
• Must be a committed Christian, able to stand above denominational diversities.
• Attend in daily devotions and weekly Chapel services.
• Perform other duties as required.
REMUNERATION
Competitive with market standards.
Knowledge, Skills and abilities
1. A degree in social sciences, development studies or agriculture.
2. Must have at least 3 years working experience in Community Development and working with HIV/AIDS initiatives.
3. The incumbent must have strong communication abilities (Fluency in Sesotho and English), networking and training skills are essential.
4. Willingness to travel extensively.
