Organizational Setting |
The objective of the Department of Nuclear Energy is to foster the efficient and safe use of nuclear power by supporting interested Member States in improving the performance of nuclear power plants, the nuclear fuel cycle, and the management of nuclear wastes; in catalysing innovation in nuclear power and fuel cycle technologies; in developing indigenous capabilities for national energy planning; in deploying new nuclear power plants; in preserving and disseminating nuclear information and knowledge; and in advancing science and industry through improved operation of research reactors. The Nuclear Knowledge Management Section assists Member States by developing methodology and guidance documents in nuclear knowledge management; implementing KM initiatives; facilitating sustainable education, training and information exchange in nuclear science and technology; and assisting Member States in maintaining and preserving nuclear knowledge. |
Main purpose |
The Knowledge Management Specialist builds on experience with knowledge management issues in the nuclear sector, with respect to the entire nuclear life-cycle, including decommissioning, radiation waste management, and environmental remediation, and supports development/implementation of Knowledge Management (KM) methods, including the development of sustainable knowledge management systems and processes to capture and manage nuclear information and resources based on Member State needs. |
Role |
The Knowledge Management Specialist is: (1) a technical project manager, developing and implementing knowledge management guidance, approaches and systems for managing nuclear knowledge; (2) an expert team member, providing analysis, developing information system/process requirements, solutions, and resources, and; (3) a scientific secretary, providing coordination of initiatives, meeting, workshops and communication between IAEA experts, Member State counterparts, and other external partners/stakeholders. |
Partnerships |
The Knowledge Management Specialist works closely with the staff of the Nuclear Knowledge Management Unit and other staff of the Department of Nuclear Energy and other Departments as needed. He/she organizes and/or participates in meetings with representatives of Member States' nuclear organizations and their staff to identify and assist with their needs and interests in nuclear knowledge management. He/she will develop strong working relationships with other units and sections to plan and lead the implement projects and initiatives in the knowledge management area. |

Remuneration |
The IAEA offers an attractive remuneration package including a tax-free annual net base salary starting at US $67 611 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance), a variable post adjustment which currently amounts to US $38 673*, dependency benefits, rental subsidy, education grant,relocation and repatriation expenses; 6 weeks' annual vacation, home leave, pension plan and health insurance.
