Palladium has been implementing a regional smallholder agricultural development project covering selected areas of Zimbabwe, Swaziland and Lesotho known as the Seed and Markets Project (SAMP) from 2010. A major thrust of SAMP 1 and 2 has been the creation and capacity building of community based enterprises enabling them to produce quality seed for local markets and contribute to seed security and enter commodity production. Palladium is now looking to consolidate the accomplishments through SAMP 3, beginning in October 2015. In SAMP 3, Palladium will be moving to a investment fund based - facilitation role which will require working with and further building the capacities of Community Owned Enterprises CoE's to expand their enterprises into strong and sustainable businesses. To achieve this, Palladium will be offering extensive training and capacity building in business development and management to the current funded CoE's. Against this background, Palladium wishes to engage the services of individuals/Consultants or organisations (Trainer) which are capable to deliver specific training to the CoE's in Zimbabwe (Masvingo), Swaziland (Ezulwini), and Lesotho (Maseru).
Under the overall supervision of the Grant/SME's Advisor and working directly with National Coordinators, the Trainer/s shall facilitate the Training of the CoE, Board members, Senior CoE Management staff, Farmer's Associations Leadership and in some instances shareholders who are farmers. This training/s will aim to Strengthened skills, knowledge and competencies of target trainees in successfully managing their community enterprises or associations with regards to:
  • Good Enterprise Governance (Including shareholding structure and CoE shares awareness workshops with Prospective shareholders/farmers).
  • Management and Practical Leadership Skills.
  • Conflict Management
The above will have to be designed into a single course that can be delivered in not more than 5 days. The training materials must be tailor made to suit the trainee levels of farmers and Staff.
Results of the Trainer are expected to be as follows:
  • Design appropriate training course content and associated materials (Trainee and trainer manuals) for the respective course/s.
  • Deliver methodologically a well-conceived and appropriate training programme in liaison with the Grants/SME Manager and National Coordinators.
  • CoE's staff, board members, Farmer Group Leaders and Shareholders/Farmers are capacitated and trained in the areas identified.
  • Strengthened skills, knowledge and competencies of CoE's staff, board members, farmer Group Leaders in the trained areas.
  • At least 5 years of relevant work experience in the area of small enterprise/business development;
  • Must possess an appropriate academic qualification at first degree level or higher (e.g. Economics, Finance, Business studies, Agribusiness, Development studies etc.)
  • Knowledge of farmer enterprise development;
  • Excellent written and spoken English, with a working knowledge of local languages being a requirement;
  • Excellent Knowledge of Training Materials development both for farmers and for enterprise staff
  • Excellent analytical skills;
  • University degree in a relevant field, such as SME management, financial management, governance and leadership;
  • Excellent training, facilitation and communication skills at various levels
  • Cultural and gender sensitivity and
  • Diplomatic skills.
