Liqhobong Mining Development Company (Pty) Ltd, a subsidiary of Firestone Diamonds PLC, invites suitably qualified and competent applicants to apply for the vacant position of High Voltage Electrician.
Job Purpose
Responsible for ensuring the continuous supply of cost effective electricity with safe, good quality and well maintained electrical installations thereby contributing to the Mine’s ongoing achievement of its production targets.
Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of the Electrical Foreman, the incumbent will carry out the following duties and responsibilities;
Ensure scheduled periodic tests to electrical equipment. That is, internal power lines, transformers, switchgear and standby generators
Maintain an inventory of critical electrical components and spares to ensure quick repairs to essential electrical equipment in the event of equipment failure
Carry out isolation, energising and resetting of electrical equipment up to 132kv
Establish electrical standards and electrical operating procedures for the mine and ensure regular review
Approve practical procedures and checklists for efficient and safe installation of electrical equipment and related work practices
Ensure adherence to electrical standards and safety procedures across the mine
Keep self and staff up to date on energy saving trends
Initiate cost effective electricity use proposals based on observed trends and new innovations
Monitor power supply quality
Monitor adherence by contractors to agreed scope of work according to service level agreements
Provide input in electrical planning process in terms of electrical and related materials required
Install or erect appropriate electrical materials/components to required areas according to applicable standards and procedures
Monitor the level of operation of the electrical system and implementation modification
Train on High Voltage procedures and works
Terminate and repair HV Cable
Ensure adherence to SHE programs, best practices, safety standards and regulations across the section
Ensure that safety and lockout procedures are understood and complied with
Legal and other requirements
Police clearance and medical examinations of fitness
Valid Code 8 driving licence
Qualifications and experience
5 years’ experience in an electrical engineering and mining/manufacturing environment;
Diploma in Electrical Engineering or equivalent;
Proficient computer skills such as MS office suite;
Knowledge of High Voltage Electricity procedures;
Experience in HV Maintenance and switching
