NEW ZEALAND DEVELOPMENT SCHOLARSHIPS
FOR POSTGRADUATE STUDY IN NEW ZEALAND
Applications are invited from nationals of Algeria, Angola, Botswana, Cameroon, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Egypt, Gambia, Ghana,
Kenya, Lesotho, Malawi, Mauritius, Morocco, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, Seychelles, Sierra Leone,
South Africa, Swaziland, Tanzania, Tunisia, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe to undertake full-time postgraduate studies (for
Postgraduate Certificates, Diplomas or Masters Degrees) at Universities in New Zealand commencing in 2016.
The New Zealand Government provides New Zealand Development Scholarships (NZDS) through the New Zealand Aid
Programme within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade. The scholarships are available to eligible African applicants and
will cover air travel, full tuition fees, an establishment allowance, and a living allowance to cover day to day costs in New
Zealand. Applicants may also be entitled to additional support for a thesis and return travel to their home country to see
dependant family members under the Reunion Airfare Entitlement.
The NZDS scheme aims to strengthen sustainable economic development in Africa by contributing to human resource
development. Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate strong academic ability, leadership qualities, and
commitment to the development of their home country; candidates who are 39 years of age or younger at the time of
commencing their scholarship; candidates who apply to study in disciplines relating to:
• Agriculture Development
• Renewable Energy
Application process and closing date for applications
1. Apply for admission to one of the ten eligible New Zealand education institutions using their usual application process
for international students. Information about eligible institutions is available here:

2. After you receive an Offer of Place (admission) from the institution, download and complete all sections of the New
Zealand Scholarship application form from

http://www.aid.govt.nz/…/eligible-count…/africa-commonwealth.
3. Obtain all requested documents.
4. Courier your completed Scholarship application form, Offer of Place, and all other required documents to reach your
nearest New Zealand High Commission or Embassy, or to the Scholarships Team, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade,
Private Bag 18-901, Wellington 5045, New Zealand by 31 July 2015.
Short listed candidates may be required to undergo a telephone interview. All candidates will be informed of the outcome
of their application by October 2015. If offered a New Zealand Development Scholarship, travel to New Zealand is subject
to a visa being issued by Immigration New Zealand.
