ActionAid is a leading international charity working in over 45 countries. They work with the poorest women and children in the world, changing their lives for good. Their local staff provide immediate, hands-on support to women and children living on the margins of survival.
ActionAid puts women and girls at the centre of their work across 45 countries. They make sure girls go to and stay in school, they work with communities to end gender-based violence, and they train women in the skills they need to earn a living. They also help women prepare for and recover from disasters, at a time when they can be at their most vulnerable.
They work in rural and urban communities across Africa, Asia and Latin America and they also respond to emergency situations arising from natural disasters or conflict.
As Director of Finance & IT you will focus on delivering high standards of operations covering financial planning and reporting, financial operations, management and stewardship. You will also ensure that the information technology infrastructure and applications are robust and able to effectively support the organisation. Important too, will be the ability to drive transformational and continuous improvement and deliver initiatives that enhance performance. You will be accountable not only to management at the secretariat and countries, but also to the Treasurer of the International Board, and your role supports the respective finance, audit and risk committees. Your influence across the organisation will be great as you provide informed decision making, act as a key change agent and develop high performing teams. In your role, you will act as mentor, guide and motivator to countries in the Federation.
With an accountancy or financial qualification you must have significant experience in a senior finance management position as part of a senior management team with Board accountability. Your background must include substantial board governance, audit, treasury and risk management experience. A strategic thinker you will have managed a large diversified team and built high performance cultures, and have proven change management experience. You will have been involved in financial planning/reporting and control of financial resources as well as possess a clear understanding of the main finance, legal, and IT issues facing the charity sector.
