The Royal Danish Embassy in Pretoria is looking for a new staff member to fulfil the functions of a Political Officer at the Embassy.
WHAT WE DO
The Political Team is responsible for all political and economic reporting related to South Africa and the Embassy’s side-accredited countries. In addition, the political team is responsible for political and cultural events as well as the Embassy’s external communication. We focus in particular on human rights and gender equality, peace and security and youth and cooperate with various partners in these fields. WHAT WE NEED YOU FOR
We are looking a Political Officer who can fulfil the following main functions:
- Analyses of South Africa’s economic policies and performances, e.g. the national budget and economic sector analyses;
- Contribute to analyses and reporting on relevant political and economic issues, e.g. elections in the region and South Africa’s foreign policy;
- Administer mini-projects including develop and negotiate agreements, registration and updating of systems and data bases, progress reporting and financial controlling;
- Develop programmes for visits and assist in preparations for Danish Ministers’ and other high-level visits to South Africa
- Contribute to the conceptualization and implementation of the Embassy’s cultural activities and contribute to the Embassy’s external communication on the Embassy webpage and the social media;
- Other tasks as instructed by management
MINIMUM REQUIREMENT, QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Minimum a bachelor’s degree in political science, economics or similar;
- Work experience from a political organization, research institution, public administration or similar;
- Understanding of economic policies, their impact on the politics/economics nexus;
- Strong analytical skills and excellent communication skills in English with regards to communicating analyses in writing;
- Structured and good skills in administering small projects etc.
- Capacity to work independently and efficiently and to be main driver of process and projects
- Ability to work as part of a team;
- Must be flexible with regards to working hours and work well under pressure;
- Flexibility to work with in-depth analysis as well as routine jobs, planning of programs and events etc.
- Experience from or knowledge of the public sector in Denmark or another Nordic country is an advantage like understanding of Danish will be an advantage.
- Applicants must hold a valid (transferable) residence- and work-permit or have Permanent Residency status in South Africa;
The applicant must have a clean criminal record. Security clearance from relevant Danish authorities will have to be obtained, based on a South African police clearance.
SALARY AND WORKING CONDITIONS
We can offer a competitive package of approx. 300.000-400.000 ZAR p.a. (+ benefits), depending on experience and qualifications, a 37 hours working week, a friendly and informal working environment which provides opportunities to develop your competencies in an international environment. We initially offer a two year contract.
