Liqhobong Mining Development Company (Pty) Ltd, a subsidiary of Firestone Diamonds PLC, invites suitably qualified, self-driven, results oriented and competent Basotho to apply for the vacant position of Diesel Mechanic Helper.
Job purpose
To assist the Diesel Mechanic with the maintenance and service of LMDC vehicle fleet. The incumbent is also responsible for maintenance and repairs of all equipment tyres on site.
Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of the Mechanic, the incumbent will carry out the following duties and
responsibilities;
• Perform road inspections on all LMDC vehicles during daily, weekly and monthly services.
• Drain and refill all oils on a vehicle during a service.
• Remove tires for brake shoes or brake pad inspections and refit.
• Replace minor components as and when required.
• Replace defective globes on vehicles as and when required.
• Grease all moving components that require lubrication.
• Check all tyre pressures during a service and pump to required pressure if required.
• Inspect vehicles and equipment for damage and report to supervisor prior to perform and maintenance or repairs on any equipment.
• Inspect vehicles to ensure that they are equipped with the required jack, wheel spanner, trial-angles and jack levers.
• Ensure compliance and adherence to SHE policies, practices, safety standards and complete necessary risk assessments.
Legal and other requirements
• Police clearance and medical examinations of fitness as per the inherent requirements of the position
• Valid code 14 driver’s license
Qualifications and experience
• 3 - 5 years’ experience as a Diesel Mechanic assistant;
• Basic knowledge of Auto Electrician repairs;
• Knowledge in tyre repairs and wheel balance;
• Knowledge of standard operating procedures in maintaining diesel motors;
