About the Climate Resilient Infrastructure Development Facility (CRIDF) Project
CRIDF is DFID’s new flagship water infrastructure programme for Southern Africa. Over the next two and a half years, the facility will deliver sustainable small-scale infrastructure across 11 Southern African Development Community (SADC) region countries.
CRIDF is implemented by a consortium led by Adam Smith International, through the Infrastructure and Climate Change team. CRIDF is staffed by a full-time Project Management Unit (PMU) responsible for identifying, selecting and mobilising projects. To develop infrastructure projects, the PMU draws on short- and long-term staff to deliver technical assistance as individual “activities”; each activity has its own Terms of Reference (ToR) and budget.
Delivering excellent Value for Money (VfM) for DFID is the most important consideration for implementing CRIDF. Adam Smith International is currently recruiting to fill a new Project Manager position in the CRIDF PMU to support the Senior Manager in ensuring CRIDF measures and maximises VfM.
About the role
To support the team’s implementation activities, we require a Senior Project Manager to work with the Resident Programme Manager and Programme Management team to effectively deliver the programme. The Senior Project Manager will be a full-time employee of the ICC team within Adam Smith International, working on-site in South Africa.
We’re looking for someone who can lead on a complex project, has a track record of managing large projects in challenging environments. The project operates with over 50 staff, across eleven locations and has a very significant budget and targets.
Specific responsibilities will include:
· Providing high level support to the Project Director and Technical Team leader and trouble-shooting the project;
· Ensuring consultancy projects are properly structured and adequately resourced
· Working with the project technical team (to ensure that work is delivered to a high technical standard Managing the relationship between Adam Smith International, the beneficial client and the funding agency
· Managing, mentoring and supporting more junior team members
· Provide overall programme management support to the
· Supporting technical and project management teams in the planning and budgeting of interventions.
· Maintain a milestone dashboard and an issues and risk register. Effectively elevate concerns;
· Overseeing recruitment and contracting of project consultants;
· Support implementation of programme activities including logistics and administration, financial management, organisational development, reporting, recruitment, and contracting.
Project Managers perform a key role in Adam Smith International’s consulting model and play a central part in managing project implementation and financial performance. A Senior Project Manager is also expected to deliver advisory and business development efforts through engaging with our donor client.
About you
Candidates for the Senior Project Manager position will be expected to possess the following:
· A postgraduate degree in economics, political science, international development, business management, or other relevant field from a top-tier university;
· Fluency in English;
· Prior experience of working in Africa;
· Strong eight to ten years’ leadership experience within private sector development or management consulting;
· Demonstrated capacity to manage complex and large projects.
· Experience in project and financial management.
· Expertise in stakeholder engagement.
