ENVIRONMENTAL COORDINATOR , Liqhobong Mining Development Company (Pty) Ltd


Liqhobong Mining Development Company (Pty) Ltd, a subsidiary of Firestone Diamonds PLC, invites suitably qualified and competent Basotho to apply for the vacant position of Environmental Coordinator. 
Job purpose 
To manage the environmental function on the Mine which entails the implementation of an environmental management system aligned to the Company’s EIA and EMP that requires monitoring, auditing, reporting and training. 
Responsibilities 
Under the direct supervision of the SHE Manager, the incumbent will carry out the following duties and responsibilities; 
• Design and implement an environmental management system on the Mine driven by appropriate policies and procedures and reporting templates; 
• Undertake, manage and report on environmental monitoring programs relating to waste management, water quality, noise, dust, fauna and flora etc., as required by the company’s EMP and relevant authorities; 
• Refine environmental incident system and procedure including definitions and severity measures and roll out across the company to employees and contractors; 
• Investigate and report on environmental incidents and complaints and ensure corrective measures are taken; 
• Conduct monthly environmental audits and create reports accordingly; 
• Follow-up on required corrective actions to ensure continuous improvement; 
• Undertake environmental training and awareness programs; 
• Submit written and verbal reports to Management and relevant key stakeholders as required; 
• Ensure compliance and adherence to set SHE policies, procedures and best practices. 
Legal and other requirements 
• Police clearance and medical examinations of fitness as per the inherent requirements of the position 
• Valid driver’s licence 
Qualifications and experience 
• 3 - 5 years’ practical experience in the mining environment; 
• Degree in Environmental Management or equivalent; 
• Sound knowledge of all aspects of environmental management and systems; 
• Solid knowledge of environmental legislation and regulatory framework

Note that this is a mine based position on a rotation cycle. Applicants must be aware of the remote location of the mine approximately 130km east-north-east of the Lesotho capital, Maseru, 360km south of Johannesburg. Being a remote site, we require our staff to show courtesy and compatibility with fellow workers at all times.
