The bi-national Lesotho Highlands Water Project (LHWP), of the Kingdom of Lesotho (KOL) and the Republic of South Africa (RSA) is aimed at harnessing the water resources of the highlands of Lesotho for the mutual advantage of Lesotho and the Republic of South Africa.
The Lesotho Highlands Development Authority (LHDA) was set up to implement and operate that part of the LHWP that falls within the borders of Lesotho. LHDA is to embark on Phase II of the Lesotho Highlands Water Project (LHWP), a multi-billion rand Phase involving large scale civil engineering and socio-environmental aspects. The Authority invites applications from suitably qualified Lesotho Nationals for the following permanent positions.
Muela Operations Branch
Muela Operations Branch Manager
To manage operation and maintenance of LHWP assets at ‘Muela Operations Branch including Hydropower Plant, Dam and Tunnels infrastructure,
AND,
To support implementation of processes, projects and programmes associated with compensation and resettlement issues, catchment and environmental as well as social investment issues and their evaluation.
A recognised Degree in Engineering. A relevant post-graduate qualification will be an added advantage, with at least ten (10) years post-qualification experience in the role of Manager or Senior Professional with a proven ability to manage senior, professional staff in a utilities service provision organization and/ or in the implementation of multi-disciplinary development projects and social or environmental best practices.
Resettlement and Development Branch (Katse AND Polihali Branch) .
Community Participation Officer x 2
To facilitate the upstream and downstream communal compensation delivery and provision of technical assistance to the respective communities in best utilization of communal compensation funds.
Degree in Business Studies or Development Studies or Economics, with at least three (3) years field experience in community work preferably in a rural African context.
An understanding of Lesotho’s unique challenges would be beneficial.
Polihali Branch
Compensation Officer x 2
To efficiently and cost effectively compensate the affected communities and individuals such that their standard of living is either maintained at or raised above the pre project levels
Degree in Agricultural Extension, or Development Studies, Adult Education and or Public Administration, with at least three (3) years field experience in agricultural extension or community work preferably in a rural African context.
An understanding of Lesotho’s unique challenges would be beneficial.
Social Worker x 2
To ensure that the social welfare of the affected communities and Polihali Branch staff is well maintained and that the communities are well motivated in their day to day activities as well as performing counselling services on problem areas.
Degree in Social Work or equivalent, with at least three (3) years’ experience as a Social Worker/Counsellor.
Membership of the Lesotho Counselling Association is essential.
Katse Operations Branch
Electrical Control and Protection Technician
To carry out preventative and corrective maintenance on electrical equipment and protection, control and communication systems associated with the LHWP
Diploma in Electrical Engineering with at least at least three (3) years practical experience as Electrical/Control & Protection Technician in a hydropower plant.
Must be fully conversant with the operation of the electrical, protection and control equipment in a hydropower station.
Storekeeper
To carry out materials management and effective administration in support of the activities and functions of the Katse Operations Branch (and the Development and Operations Division at large)
Certificate in Inventory/Purchasing Management with five (5) years’ experience in Procurement and materials management
OR
Diploma in Inventory/Purchasing Management with three (3) years relevant experience in Procurement and materials management
Assistant Storekeeper/Fuel Attendant
To follow up materials purchased from the suppliers and arrange deliveries to storage locations by ensuring that goods are delivered safely and on time and ensures that materials handling equipment is operated efficiently.
Junior Certificate with five (5) years’ experience in materials management
OR
COSC with three (3) years’ experience in materials management
Information Systems Branch
Library Records Officer
To process documents, archival materials, drawings, maps, photographs etc. according to prescribed standards and procedures.
Certificate in Librarianship or Records Management, with at least two (2) years’ experience in library customer services, archives/ records management processes and computerised bibliographic data input.
Environment Branch (Katse)
Curator
To Plan, implement and monitor the conservation of biological resources in order to ensure preservation and sustainable use by communities in the LHWP area and beyond.
Diploma in Agriculture/Horticulture/Range Management with at least five (5) years’ experience in Biological Conservation or conservation related environment.
OR
Degree in Agriculture/Horticulture/ Botanical Sciences/Biological/Sciences/Range Management/Environmental Sciences with at least two (2) years’ experience in Biological Conservation or conservation related environment.
Knowledge of the flora of Lesotho would be beneficial.
