KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Obtaining and analysing the weather for
the route and any destination or alternate
aerodromes, for the purpose of preparing the
Operational Flight Plan (OFP);
• Obtaining NOTAM information relevant to
the flight and determining any effects on the
proposed flight, for the purpose of preparing
the OFP;
• Determining the mass & balance for the flight;
• Preparing; an OFP for the flight; an ATC flight
plan and submit it; Flight Release; a Passenger
and Crew Manifest
• Determining the maintenance status of the
airplane; that the crew is qualified for the area,
route and/or aerodromes;
• Determining the suitability and availability
of all destination or alternate aerodromes,
including ensuring airplane performance and
aerodrome operating minima criteria are met
for each;
• Signing or otherwise acknowledging
responsibility for preparation of the Flight
Release;
• The monitoring of the progress of each flight;
• Coordinating with Air Traffic Control in
the event of operational instructions to an
airplane en-route are required to be issued
that would necessitate a change to the Air
Traffic Services flight plan;
• Assisting the Captain in decision-making
with respect to the continuation, diversion or
termination of a flight; and
• Following the procedures prescribed in the
MGC Aviation Emergency Response Plan in
the event of an emergency.
KEY REQUIREMENTS
• Matric (or equivalent)
• Effective communication skills (verbal,
listening and writing)
• Flight Operations experience
• Decision making skills
• Problem solving skills
• Computer literate and understanding of Ms
Office packages (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
• Excellent interpersonal skills.
