The National University of Lesotho invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for the following post:

ADMINISTRATION

Job Summary:  The Director provides administrative and academic leadership to drive the NUL policy of Open and Distance Learning in order to increase access to educational services and programmes that will assist in promoting national development, and to focus on continuing professional development, and lifelong learning.

Key Performance Areas:

  • Administers the daily operations of the Institute and manages the academic financial, physical and human resources of the Institute, in cooperation with the respective departments and faculties
  • Provides leadership, innovation and coordination to all activities of the Institute
  • Liaises with all academic departments and assists them in developing and implementing Open and Distance Learning Programmes,
  • Initiates services and programmes to meet the continuing professional development needs of residents of Lesotho.
  • Works with business, industry, government and other agencies to develop and offer programmes of need to residents of Lesotho.
  • Develops an Academic Plan for the Institute, including new programmes and services, a robust research agenda and outreach services and implements the plan.
  • Manages resources of the Institute, particularly focusing on generating funds for self-support programmes and the Institute’s self-sufficiency.
  • Maintains high standards of teaching and research within the Institute.
  • Manages and appraises performance of staff as well as overseeing the training and development of staff.
  • Develops partnerships to advance the mission of the Institute.
  • Initiates innovations in teaching and learning, particularly the increased use of technology and Open and Distance Learning.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Job Requirements:
  • A doctoral degree is required.  Professorship will be preferred.
  • At least five (5) years of administrative experience as Head of Department, Dean or Director.
  • Ability to provide academic leadership, and to support development of research in education.
  • Evidence of formulating and implementing innovative educational strategies and programmes to serve the educational needs of students in higher education.
  • Evidence of ability to generate income and manage resources.
  • Evidence of ability to develop partnerships, with outcomes
  • Ability to work with business and industry, government and international donor agencies.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure.
  • Be a self-starter, innovative, inventive, analytical, creative, and entrepreneurial.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to work with academics and constituencies outside the University
  • Technically proficient in the use of technology and appropriate software

Contract Duration:
The appointment for the post shall be for a contract period of 3 years.
