Business Development Manager
Salary: R848 786 per annum (total cost to company)
This position calls for a dynamic leader experienced in strategic business development and partnership management. The successful candidate will be a member of the Business, Development, Marketing and Communication Key Strategic Area, and in possession of excellent networking, negotiation and analytical skills as well as good research and investigative skills.
To be considered, candidates will need a postgraduate qualification, a proven record of at least 5-6 years in business development and a good understanding of and experience in South Africa’s water sector and the Water Research community. A Master’s in Business Administration/Business Management or equivalent would be advantageous. Solid experience in using methods and tools for the dissemination of knowledge, impact assessment and research-based business development is essential, while experience in securing new business and partnerships would be advantageous. A strategic focus, knowledge of water legislation and research, and ability to apply legal knowledge (industrial relations, contracts management, etc) is imperative. Furthermore, the appointee will demonstrate project and people (project team and stakeholders) skills, and the ability to coordinate, facilitate and communicate effectively, as well as be proactive (ie enterprising individual with good business skills).
Key responsibilities:
• Develop and manage the WRC Business Development and Partnership Strategy
• Develop New Business opportunities with private, public and donor (national and international) partners
• Take stewardship of WRC partnerships
• Strengthen networks and develop differentiated partnerships to support technology and research rollout
• Coordinate research (eg WRC lighthouses and innovation) and provide marketing and promotion plan oversight and support
• Assess impact/footprint of the WRC and other water-related research in terms of the WRC’s impact areas and strategic objectives
• Assess policy trends and national priorities and how these impact WRC research, uptake and diffusion
• Perform metadata research.
Appointment will be made in line with the WRC’s employment equity policy and remuneration will be negotiated on the basis of an all-inclusive flexible package.
