Internal Audit Manager , Water Research Commission (WRC)

Internal Audit Manager
Salary: R740 065 per annum (total cost to company)
The WRC is looking for an Internal Auditor to add value and improve its operations by bringing a systematic and disciplined approach to the effectiveness of risk management, control and governance processes. The successful candidate will possess a thorough knowledge of auditing procedures, sound independent judgement and good interpersonal, leadership, organising and coordinating skills.
To apply, candidates must have a relevant Bachelor’s degree, National Diploma in Auditing, or equivalent, plus 3-5 years’ proven working experience as an Internal Auditor and advanced computer literacy in MS Office, accounting software and databases. Membership of the Institute of Internal Auditors of South Africa (Certified Internal Auditor) and/or CA(SA) would be an advantage, as would experience in public sector finance, specifically in a GRAP and PFMA environment. Essential competencies include the ability to analyse large amounts of data and to compile detailed reports, as well as proven knowledge of auditing standards and procedures, laws, rules and regulations, high attention to detail and excellent analytical and communication skills. Good knowledge of relevant legislation and professionalism when dealing with customers and visitors are also required.
Key responsibilities:
• Perform and control the full audit cycle including risk management and control management over the WRC’s operations’ effectiveness, financial reliability and compliance with all applicable legislation, directives and regulations
• Determine internal audit scope and develop annual audit plans
• Review the suitability of the WRC internal control design
• Conduct audit testing of specified areas as identified in the annual audit plans and identify reportable issues
• Identify gaps and recommend risk aversion measures and cost savings
• During audits, determine compliance with policies and procedures
• Prepare and present reports that reflect audit results and document the process
• Act as an objective source of independent advice to Management with a focus on ensuring validity, legality and goal achievement within the WRC
• Maintain open communication with Management and the Audit Committee
• Conduct follow up audits to monitor Management’s interventions
• Ensure ongoing knowledge development regarding sector’s rules, regulations, best practices, tools, techniques and performance standards.
Appointment will be made in line with the WRC’s employment equity policy and remuneration will be negotiated on the basis of an all-inclusive flexible package.
