Introduction
Palladium (formally GRM International) has been implementing a regional smallholder agricultural development project covering selected areas of Zimbabwe, Swaziland and Lesotho known as the Seed and Markets Project (SAMP) from 2010. From October 2015, Palladium will be implementing the third and final phase of the project SAMP 3 from October 2015 to March 2018. Phase 3 of SAMP aims to build on lessons learned from the previous phases and scale up operations working through established community enterprises through and investment fund approach.
Primary Responsibilities
· Assess and report on the current situation with regard to livestock feed availability and feeding practices in the target areas, highlighting potential areas where SAMP could intervene;
· Map out key supporting market actors with incentives and capacity to promote and use diversified livestock feed seed;
· Using the Value Chain approach, define strategies and tactics (to be followed by the community enterprises) for strengthening the value chain to ensure sustainable uptake of diversified livestock feed seed within the farming systems;
· Awareness creation and mentoring for SAMP staff and staff from community enterprises on the importance of improved livestock feed;
· Assist potential investment fund grantees on investment fund applications.
Essential Education and Experience Required
· A Post Graduate Qualification (MSc or above) in Animal Science, specializing in animal production, dairy development and nutrition;
· Experience in design of animal feed improvement programs in Sub-Saharan Africa;
· Experience in strengthening dairy value chains and other market based approaches.
Key Competencies Required:
· Excellent communication skills;
· The ability to work with people from a variety of backgrounds.
