LESOTHO HIGHLANDS DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY
GRADUATE INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME/YOUNG PROFESSIONALS PROGRAMME
The Lesotho Highlands Development Authority (LHDA) is charged with the
responsibility for the implementation, operation and maintenance of the Lesotho
Highlands Water Project (LHWP) in Lesotho on behalf of the Governments of the
Kingdom of Lesotho and the Republic of South Africa. The Project comprises water
transfer and hydropower generation components and ancillary developments, with
Phase I of the Project completed in 2004.
Over the next eight (8) years, the LHDA will be implementing Phase II of the LHWP,
with this being a unique opportunity to develop skills and deepen experience for the
benefit of Lesotho and South Africa. The LHDA seeks to provide young professionals
with experiential learning that would support their transition into the working
environment. It is intended that more than one hundred (100) internships will be
provided during the implementation of Phase II.
The LHDA therefore invites applications from recent graduates for consideration as
per the following:
1. DURATION AND REMUNERATION
The Programme will offer graduates internship of six (6) to twenty four (24)
months, dependent on specific engagement. Interns will receive a monthly
stipend towards their living expenses.
2. ELIGIBILITY
Candidates must be either Basotho or South African nationals below the age of
thirty (30), who have not previously been employed in a full-time capacity. They
must be in possession of University Degree in the fields chronicled below:
i. Civil Engineering - HR/Intern/CV/15/1
ii. Surveying - HR/Intern/SURV/15/1
iii. Engineering Geology - HR/Intern/EG/15/1
iv. Architecture - HR/Intern/ARCH/15/1
v. Social Sciences and Humanities - HR/Intern/SSH/15/1
vi. Natural Sciences - HR/Intern/NS/15/1
vii. Environmental Management - HR/Intern/EM/15/1
viii. Geotechnical/Mining Engineering - HR/Intern/GME/15/1
The LHDA reserves the right to place or not place applicants based on its needs
and requirements. The LHDA is furthermore under no obligation to employ Interns
upon completion of the programme.
Due to the large amount of correspondence envisaged, only shortlisted candidates
will be contacted. Should you not hear from us within three (3) months of the
notified cut-off date, please accept that your application was unsuccessful for the
first round. The application will be retained in the database for future consideration.
3. REPLY INSTRUCTION
A Motivation Letter, Curriculum Vitae’s and certified copies of Academic Certificates,
and at least one Reference Letter from the last school attended or employer be
e-mailed in PDF format files not exceeding 4 MB to internships@lhda.org.ls.
The specific reference number of the Internship opportunity must also be quoted.
Applications received after the notified cut-off date and those that are found
not to meet the immediate requirements will be retained in the database but
those that do not meet the basic minimum stipulations will be set aside. For

4. CLOSING DATE FOR APPLICATIONS
There is no closing date for this invitation since interns will be required and takenon
well into 2019. LHDA may re-publish the advert from time to time to highlight
specific requirements for the ensuing period, this being at the sole discretion of
the LHDA.
Applications for the first intake must be received by 14 SEPTEMBER 2015.
