Programme Specialist/Economist

Background

Under the guidance of the Deputy Resident Representative (DRR), the  Programme Specialist/Economist acts as the manager of the Strategy and Policy Unit, and an advisor to Senior Management on all aspects of Country Office (CO) Programme in the area  of socio-economic development, and inclusive growth. In close collaboration with the other Programme Unit Heads she/he assists the DRR in strategic planning, identifying new programme areas  and policy options and  responses to emerging challenges and opportunities while ensuring consistency with the priorities of the United Nations Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF), the Country Programme Document (CPD) and National Strategic Development Plan (NSDP) and other strategic frameworks. . She/he also works under the guidance and in close collaboration with the Senior Economic Advisor to carry out operational research and  socio-economic analysis for the  formulation of strategies and briefings to Senior Management.

The incumbent  advocates for and represents UNDP in his/her area of expertise as requested by his/her supervisor Regional

The Programme Specialist/Economist heads and supervises the Strategy and Policy Unit staff,   leading the planning and implementation of programmes in this area,  liaises with partners on the subject matter and works  with the Technical Teams, UNDP HQs (RBA) Advisors, the CO Operations Team, other UN Agencies, Government Officials, multi-lateral and bi-lateral donors, and civil society to successfully implement the UNDP Programme.  

She/he builds strategic partnerships and establishes networks to advocate and mobilize resources for the implementation of the aspect of the CO Programme.
