Project Assistant – Governance

We are:

The European Union (EU) is an economic and political partnership between 28 European countries. It plays an important role in international affairs through diplomacy, trade, development aid and working with global organisations. Abroad, the EU is represented through more than 140 diplomatic representations, known as EU Delegations, which have a similar function to those of an embassy. The EU Delegation in Maseru ensures the representation of the EU to the Kingdom of Lesotho and bilateral relations in the domains of political relations, economic, trade and external assistance cooperation.

We offer a local staff post of Project Assistant. The person recruited will be attributed functions depending on the needs of the Delegation, in particular its Cooperation Section. Upon recruitment, the successful candidate will occupy a specific job function as Project Assistant (this job function may evolve in accordance with the needs of the Delegation). Under this job function the successful candidate will serve as a technical and support staff member engaged with a broad range of development cooperation activities related to governance and cooperation with NGOs, working under the supervision and responsibility of the Head of Cooperation of the EU Delegation.

The place of employment is the EU Delegation to Lesotho, located at 167 Constitution Rd, Maseru West.

The person will be recruited as a Group 2 local agent. The starting basic salary is LSL 17,266.00, which is subject to income tax. We offer an attractive position in an international organisation. We look for a person who should:

have prior experience in project management;
be able to work independently, prioritise tasks and meet deadlines;
Ideally have a minimum of three years in a similar position, with experience in the area of governance, including working with civil society organisations, and preferably in an international working environment;
have the requisite computer skills, with proficiency in main Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel);
be fluent in English and Sesotho (speaking, reading and writing) and have excellent drafting skills;
be a team worker and have excellent communication skills.
A relevant qualification/degree, and/or or equivalent experience, would be a significant asset.

The selection procedure will consist of an evaluation of the applications, a possible written test and an interview for shortlisted candidates.
