Applications are hereby invited from Lesotho
suitably qualified candidates for the position of
Programme Assistant for Child Protection and Basic
Education in UNICEF Lesotho Country Office.
Major duties and responsibilities:
• Collects information mainly from records and
reports and prepares periodic and ad hoc
reports for two programme sections regarding
programme and project implementation
activities, as well as implementation of VISION and
HACT and end use of UNICEF-funded supplies.
• Organizes data and information, including
confidential files, programme records, prepares
and maintains records, documents and plans for
the monitoring of programme implementation
following requirements of VISION.
• Contributes to the preparation of reports, project
documents and submissions to government
by providing information, preparing tables
and drafting routine sections. Prepares
background information for use in discussions
with governments and other organizations.
Participates in the briefing and debriefing of
project personnel.
• Prepares background information for us in
discussions with governments and other partners.
• Participates in briefing and debriefing of project
personnel.
• Scrutinizes Section work plans, supply distribution
lists and relevant documentation on education
and adolescent activities, exchanges of letters and
takes appropriate follow-up action. Assists in the
administrative process of government requests
for assistance.
• Manages program documents, including typing,
photocopying, filing, receiving, screening,
logging and routing correspondences, and
attaching the necessary background information
and maintaining follow up system.
• Arranges appointments/ meetings and maintains
supervisors’ calendar, receive visitors, places and
screens telephone calls and answers queries with
discretion.
• Prepares travel authorization, by assembling all
information pertinent to travel.
• Performs other duties, as required.
Qualifications and Experience Required:
• Educational qualifications: QUALIFICATIONS
AND COMPETENCIES required to perform the
duties of the post:
• a) EDUCATION
• Completion of secondary education, preferably
supplemented by technical or university courses
in a field related to the work of the Organization.
• b) WORK EXPERIENCE
• three years of responsible clerical or
administrative work, of which at least one year
is closely related to support of programme
activities. Knowledge of VISION and the UN
system are an added advantage.
• c) LANGUAGES
• Fluency in English and good knowledge of
Sesotho are requirements.
