PROGRAMMING AND TRAINING ASSISTANT
Under the supervision of the Program Manager (PM) for Education, the Programming and Training Assistant (PTA) is directly responsible for assisting in developing, managing and implementing all in-country Peace Corps projects in the Education Program, as well as for assisting the PM with providing supervision, support, and training toan average of 60 Peace Corps Volunteers (PCVs).
The PTA participates in the development and implementation of in-country activities and events; and participates in decisions that affect the overall operation of the in-country Peace Corps program.
The PTA implements approved activities in order to provide continuing programming and training support for staff and volunteers. During the training cycles, the PTA will assist with training for his/her project area and work under the direct supervision of both the Training Manager (TM) and PM. Specific duties will include:
Duties and Responsibilities
• Assisting the PM in identifying, documenting, and preparing potential volunteer sites and volunteer job descriptions, and follow-up on Volunteers’ housing
• Educating local supervisors and/or Ministry personnel on the role of Volunteers, counterpart agency contributions, and Peace Corps Lesotho safety and security standards for Volunteers placements
• Facilitating technical training, practical and classroom instruction, and field activities for project Trainees.
• Assisting in providing support to trainees during their cultural and language adjustments.
• Assisting with project plans, information packets for PC/Washington, and becoming familiar with programming and training guidelines
• Assisting PM to prepare sector budgets and liaising with the Administrative Unit
• Coordinating with HIV Coordinator to ensure integration of HIV priority program areas in project activities (i.e., training, reporting, site identification, etc.)
• Addressing Volunteer safety and security by adhering to Peace Corps site development policies and procedures.
Minimum requirements:
• University Degree in subjects related to
Education and/or work experience in Education
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
• Experience in designing and implementing training for groups of more than 10 people
• Experience in motivating and working with counterparts and community groups
• Knowledge of gender issues in Lesotho and its effect on various aspects of development
• Organizational skills and ability to multi-task
• Demonstrated computer skills to include knowledge of MS Word, Excel, and Outlook
• Strong interpersonal skills
• Able to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as in a group setting
• Willingness to take calls, work, and travel during odd hours and on weekends
• Experience working with Americans and an understanding of American culture highly desirable
