PROJECT SUMMARY:
The Lesotho Highlands Water Project - Phase II (LHWP2) entails the design and construction of a major water supply scheme including a 165 metre high CFRD dam; a 38-km long, 5m transfer tunnel bored through hard rock (basalt); and associated advance infrastructure such as bulk power supply, telecommunications, housing, roads and bridges, including socio-economic, public health, resettlement and bio-physical environmental mitigation action plans.
CLIENT: Lesotho Highlands Development Authority (LHDA)
The Project Management Unit attached to the LHDA for the implementation of Phase II of the Lesotho Highlands Water Project and is seeking a professional QS/Contracts Engineer to support the Contracts Team.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
General assistance to the Contracts Team in all aspects of contracts/procurement/risk management for example:
• Checking contract documents, procurement documentation for quality control
• Updating of the risk reports as required.
• Preparation of draft contractual correspondence.
• Assist in the preparation of reports.
• Assist in the taking of meeting minutes and their preparation for review.
• Manage the team diary to ensure timely submission of deliverables
• Preliminary checks of variations and cost estimates.
• Preliminary checks of all invoices, Payment Certificates and Claim submittals
• Work closely with the scheduler to understand the principles of monitoring and performance.
• Assisting with the collation of documentation from the Project Management Information
System.
REQUIREMENTS:
• Must have an internationally recognized B.Sc/B. Eng Degree in Civil Engineering, Quantity
Surveying or Building Science.
• Chartered/Professional Membership (or equivalent) would be an advantage; however qualifications and experience in order to obtain future membership are essential.
• Fluent in English, with excellent technical, communication and organisational skills
• High degree of competency with standard computer software (including MS Office Suite and
Adobe Professional).
• Reasonable knowledge, but great interest in Contracts and Contracts Management, with evidence of previous experience.
• Interest in doing further studies within the
Contracts field would be an advantage.
• Experience in drafting contract correspondence and the review of contract/procurement documents.
• Some experience and involvement with construction contracts, preferably at some level of contracts administration using FIDIC or NEC.
• At least 8 years post-qualification experience, preferably with a combination of consultancy and contracting experience in the SADC region.
