DRILL & BLAST ENGINEER WANTED AT LETSENG DIAMONDS
Letšeng Diamond Mine seeks to employ a Mosotho national with the appropriate skills and experience to fill the position of
DRILL & BLAST ENGINEER (PATERSON BAND DU)
JOB PURPOSE: Responsible for improving safety, increasing productivity and inventories and
improving the cost effectiveness of the Drill and Blast process at Letšeng Diamonds to provide
optimal fragmentation of ore and waste for efficient loading, hauling and treatment/recovery.
MAIN OUTPUTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Undertake all investigations required to ensure that the drilling and blasting operation is
fully optimised, Achievement of world class final pits
Ensure that waste and ore drilling operations remain strictly to operational planning to
ensure the continuous availability of loadable ore and prepare drill pattern designs
Manage quantities of explosives from the magazines to execute the blast
Ensure the appropriate safety procedures are followed
Review drill and blast activities with key production personnel to continuously improve
designs, layouts and operating practices and strategies to reduce drill and blast costs
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Degree or Diploma in Mining Engineering
Relevant explosive management/Technology qualification
10 years relevant experience in an open pit production environment, of which 5 years
should be experience in drilling and blasting planning and practice
Experience in leading the function on a 37 million tonnes per annum open pit mine
REQUIRED COMPETENCIES, KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
Use of relevant modern technology to optimise the drilling and blasting process
Intimate knowledge of all of the explosives and accessory options
Drilling and Blasting techniques
Risk management principles
Advanced verbal and written business communication skills
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Candidates will be required to undergo a Medical Examination of fitness as per
requirements.
