FACULTY OF SOCIAL SCIENCES:
Post No. 1905: Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor in Social Work in the
Department of Sociology, Anthropology and Social Work
Minimum Qualifications and Requirements:
Candidates must have; (i) at least a Masters’ Degree in Social Work; (ii) at least 5
years of teaching experience at a University; (iii) a good and sustained record of
research and publications; (iv) evidence of service to University, the Profession and
the Community; (v) evidence of effective academic leadership; (vi) a relevant PhD
will be preferred for a Senior Lecturer and it must be a must for an Associate
Professor. Preference shall be given to candidates who have demonstrated knowledge
of teaching and research in Social Work Methodologies and trends in social work
education and training. The curriculum vitae (CV) should contain a detailed list of
publications; clearly specifying titles of publications, dates published, name of
publishers and name of co-authors if any. Publications should be categorized into:
books, monographs, refereed and non-refereed journals, chapters in books, etc.
Duties:
The successful candidate will be expected to teach and assess undergraduate and
postgraduate students in Social Work and to maintain publications of research articles
in accredited journals and/or books. The candidate will also be expected to supervise
undergraduate/postgraduate students, share in departmental and faculty tasks,
administrative tasks and community engagement.
NATIONAL UNIVERSITY OF LESOTHO LIBRARY:
Post No. 3411 & 3333: Library Access Assistants
Minimum Qualifications and Requirements:
● Diploma in Library and Information Studies.
● At least 2 years working experience in a library and information environment
Duties:
● Answerable to Head of Client Access, Training and User Support (CATUS).
● Working at the Access Area, charging and discharging print and non-print materials
using an automated system.
● Answering user inquiries regarding availability of specific items and their status, as
well as status of specific collection materials following established guidelines.
● Assisting clients with ready reference queries and where necessary liaising with
Subject Librarians for more technical research queries.
● Maintaining the reserved collection materials.
● Attending to basic statistics pertaining to the section.
● Shelving, shelf-reading, retrieving and shifting library materials.
● Assisting in the preparation and implementation of library orientation.
● On rotational basis, serve at the Mobile Library site as per schedule.
● Assisting in general library duties as required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
● Basic computer skills.
● Strong written and verbal communication skills.
● Commitment to a high level of customer care.
● Ability to sustain attention to detail.
● Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff

FACULTY OF SOCIAL SCIENCES:
Post No. 1990: Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in the Department of Statistics
and Demography
Minimum Qualifications and Requirements:
Applicants for the respective post of Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Statistics
must have:
▪ Masters Degree in Statistics with some training in Operations Research
and/or a Ph.D. in Statistics with some training in Operations Research.
▪ Some working experience in statistics, which includes experience in
teaching at the university level, training of statisticians elsewhere
and/or application of statistics in research, in the case of a Lecturer.
▪ At least six (6) years of teaching experience at the university level and
proven record of research and at least three (3) peer reviewed
publications, and already be in the position at the equivalent institution
of higher learning at the time of application, in the case of a Senior
Lecturer.
▪ Skills in teaching theoretical and applied Statistics courses and
Operations Research courses, conducting research and supervision of
students’ research projects.
Duties:
Successful candidate for the respective post of a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer
will be expected to teach and supervise students’ research projects and
participate in research activities of the Department. Whenever it may be
found necessary, successful candidate will be assigned any other duty,
including administrative duties, in the Department.
ADMINISTRATION:
Post No. 1051: Senior Fire Officer
Minimum Qualifications and Requirements:
● A 2-3 year Post-COSC Diploma in Fire Fighting and Safety related studies; or
Extensive Training in Fire Fighting, Prevention and Safety; or a minimum of a total
of ten (10) years of previous practical working experience in a Fire
Brigade/Department.
● A candidate should have appropriate skills to identify hazards in Design,
Construction, and Use of Buildings in order to develop Safe Systems of Work.
● Knowledge and Interest in Environmental Protection will be an added advantage.
● A candidate must be physically and mentally fit, and be able to exercise Good
Leadership Management, Command and Control skills.
● He/She must be in possession of a valid Code C or C1 Drivers’ Licence.
Applicants must be between 30-50 years of age.
Duties:
Answerable to Director of Safety and Security.
● Is In-Charge of the Fire Unit.
● It is His/Her explicit duty to Pre-Plan for fighting fires in buildings and veld fires to
ensure safety of fire fighters.
● Provision of Training and Development which typically cover Standard Operating
Procedures, as well as ensuring that personnel know and understand the
equipment and the associated skills in its use.
● To facilitate that suitable and sufficient resources of equipment are in place and
usable at all times.
● To ensure that personnel response to incidents is done in a timely manner to allow
work activity to be executed safely.
● To organise and facilitate that systems are in place to record and regularly review
risk information, and to make certain that new risks are identified and recorded as
soon as possible.
● To ensure that there is sufficient supervision that enables all safe systems of work
to be carried out in accordance with Standards Operating Procedures.
● To make Fire Safety Audits.
● To conduct Incidents De-Briefs.
● To make Health and Safety Audits.
● To advise University Authorities on Health and Safety hazards in Buildings,
Workplace and Environment in order to be in compliance with Laws and
Regulations.
● To embark on continuous professional development and maintenance of personnel’
skills for enhancing protection of life and property at the university.
● To carry out any other relevant duties that may be assigned from time to time by
relevant authorities
