LECTURER: CONTINUING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

CENTRE FOR TEACHING AND LEARNING (CTL)
Background:
The Centre for Teaching and Learning’s vision is to support creation of excellence in teaching and learning; to produce high quality graduates and to contribute towards the sustainable development of the University. The Centre therefore invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for the position advertised below. The applicants must be multi-skilled and experienced academics with an education background. Minimum qualifications and requirements are listed under each position.
 
  Post No. 8000:   Lecturer: Continuing Professional Development
  
Minimum Qualifications and Requirements
  • A minimum of a Masters Degree in Teacher Education;
  • Must have taken courses in teaching in higher education including instructional design, programme design and assessment;
  • Must have a proven track record of research in the relevant field;
  • Must have experience in:
    • teaching in an institution of higher learning;
    • running as well as facilitating continuing professional development programmes; and
    • developing teaching and learning materials in higher education.
Duties and Responsibilities
The incumbent will be responsible for Continuing Professional Development (CPD) needed by the University teaching staff. He/she will be expected to:
  •  provide professional support in the following areas: instructional design; programme design and evaluation, assessment, teaching/pedagogy and andragogy necessary for teaching in higher education;
  • undertake research in relevant fields;
  • provide instructional inputs and lead research on teaching and learning including student surveys, analyse data and write research reports;
  • document best practice on examination techniques to help improve learner success rates;
  • organize training programmes with academic faculties to improve learning skills of students;
  • monitor initiatives implemented at faculty level and compile reports on progress made;
  • formulate and periodically review policies such as workload policy; and
  • develop, administer, analyse and prepare reports on teaching staff end of course teaching assessment;

The University offers salaries and other benefits commensurate with qualifications and experience.
  
Employment type:
Permanent and pensionable/gratuitable for Locals and Contract for Non – Locals.
