Job Summary
The Officer must ensure safe water, sanitation, health education and community participation is encouraged and delivered using an integrated public health approach while supporting every opportunity for WatSan capacity building by regularly providing technical supervision, support and advice to National Society and targeted areas.

Key Responsibilities
Liaises with relevant local institutions to effectively implement WatSan Projects and Programmes following the Society policies, strategies and strategic plans on water and sanitation.
Advising the NS in water, sanitation and hygiene promotion programming, in broad coordination with other sectors
Ensuring quality and integrity of implementation, including adherence to technical guidelines, administrative systems, and established deadlines
Advising National Society’s staff Work closely with Health and Social Services during the assessment and project planning process while in close co-operation with Disaster Management components both within the NS.
Evaluating the relevance and appropriateness of current and future programming in relation to water, sanitation and hygiene promotion in the local context
Monitor and evaluate WatSan projects to encourage project is implemented to plan and carry out the following tasks to improve health and reduce vulnerability of the beneficiaries by:
* ensuring adequate safe water is available to all members of the target community group
* ensuring water quality is tested regularly where appropriate
* ensure SPHERE standards are attained and maintained where appropriate
* ensure international and/or national WatSan standards are maintained
* ensure adequate sanitation facilities are available to target community group to include excreta disposal and where appropriate bathing/laundry facilities
* ensure other sanitation needs are addressed where appropriate (vector control, waste water management, solid waste management, hazardous waste management)
Train community facilitators, trainers and National Society staff in hygiene promotion as appropriate.
Support and train target communities in hygiene promotion project planning and implementation, including budgeting, and reporting, as appropriate.
Produce regular, timely and accurate financial and narrative reports for the for donors
Develop/adapt hygiene promotion materials for use during an emergency operation for different target groups e.g. school children. Draw on PHAST methodologies where appropriate.
Participate in RDRT teams and be involved in relief operations if requested.
Oversee the hygiene promotion and social mobilization strategies to address the priority public health risks in the targeted communities.
Produce regular, timely and accurate financial and narrative reports

Qualifications
Degree/Diploma in Water and Sanitation or Environmental Health

Experience
Minimum 3 years working WatSan experience

Knowledge, skills and Competencies
- Having professional mastery over their technical area and Knowledge of project planning & budgeting, supervision and management to include monitoring and evaluation
- Experience of producing narrative and Financial reports using Computer
- Results focus and accountability as well as Strong ability to work in a multidisciplinary team
- Integrity, commitment and respect for diversity
- Ability to engage effectively with other NS staff, volunteers and beneficiaries, being a team builder and team player, a good communicator at all levels,

The three positions are for one year renewable upon performance and only candidates WHO MEET MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS MUST APPLY.
