HEAD OF LOCAL OFFICE – AIDS 2016

Durban has been selected to host the 21st International AIDS Conference (AIDS 2016). The biennial International AIDS Conference is the premier gathering for those working in the field of HIV, as well as policymakers, people living with HIV and others committed to ending the epidemic. The International AIDS Conference is the largest international meeting on a single health issue, where every two years between 15,000 - 18,000 participants representing all stakeholders in the global response to HIV meet to assess progress and identify future priorities. With more than 1,500 international journalists expected to attend, the conference is the single most widely-covered HIV event in the world.The International AIDS Society (IAS), the world's leading independent association of HIV professionals, with 16,000 members in 170 countries, will organize AIDS 2016 in collaboration with international and local partners.Purpose of the Position:
The Head of Local Office (HLO) oversees the administration of the 21st International AIDS Conference (AIDS 2016) Local Office in Durban. S/He manages its various activities around the preparation of AIDS 2016 in Durban. The HLO’s leadership will be crucial in ensuring an efficient, proactive collaboration with the IAS office based in Geneva. S/He will supervise all local employees on a day-to-day basis and will ensure the smooth coordination of the Local Office’s activities. All activities will be undertaken in cooperation with the AIDS 2016 respective responsible based in Geneva (i.e. Fundraising, Congress & Exhibition, Programme Development, Communication, Human Resources, and/or Finance).The AIDS 2016 Local Office in Durban will start with a small number of employees in 2014 (3-5 people) that may increase to approx. 10 - 15 people closer to the Conference.
