Senior Expeditor
The role
To coordinate and oversee the process by which the means of controlling and recording of information, documents and drawing and flow between project team, contractors and suppliers against approved schedules and within project timelines takes place.
Key Performance Areas
  1. Project Kick-Off
  2. Observes project kick off meetings to randomly monitor performance of expeditors.
  3. Arranges and chairs (including agenda drafting) project kick off meetings for more complex packages to understand the scope of work and define and identify the following:
    • The role players to whom the Expeditors will report to during the project
    • Specific client requirements
    • International standards and codes applicable during the project
    • Logistical requirements of the project
  4. Obtains list of all equipment to be purchased and a copy of the Purchase Operating Plan
  5. Generates the Expediting Operating Plan to define the scope of work
2. Monitor Project Document Compliance (for more complex packages assigned to this position)
  • Reviews project documentation approved by expeditors to ensure compliance
  • Monitors the receipt of all relevant project documentation and ensure documentation is approved by Sandvik and the client
  • Ensures that the project documentation adheres to project specifications
  • Chairs meetings with the vendor to discuss project requirements thereby ensuring buy-in from the vendor e.g. determination of delivery dates
  • Oversees the approval process to ensure that the documentation gets returned to the vendor
  • Communicates well-understood client’s requirements to the vendors continuously i.e. who are the contacts, which Engineer is to receive the drawings, etc.
3. Manage Project Documentation (for more complex packages assigned to this position)
  • Monitors and manages the flow of project documentation in adherence with the Quality Requirement List (QRL), for example: quality control plans, program, welding documentation, datebook index, datebooks, certificates, operating and maintenance manuals, etc.
  • Checks documentation received to what is depicted on the order to ensure documentation is in place and that the project milestones are adhered to
  • Liaises with the inspectors, expeditors, project team and client to coordinate resource planning to ensure the right people are in the right place at the right time.
Your Role:
  • Matric
  • Tertiary qualification in Logistics Management and/or Expediting (suitably qualified as articulated in the EE Act)
  • Minimum 5 to 8 years Expediting and Quality Assurance experience
  • Minimum 2 years supervisory experience
  • Post graduate qualification in Logistics Management and/or Expediting will be advantageous
  • Welding certification (i.e. Level 1) would be advantageous
  • Knowledge and good understanding of ECO terms relevant to international packaging
  • Must have extensive contact base in shipping agents industry both locally and internationally
Other Requirements:
  • Required to travel to visit site locally and internationally.
