Grounds Upkeep Officer Wanted at National University of Lesotho


The National University of Lesotho invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for the following post:

DEPARTMENT OF CAMPUS SERVICES
Post No. 2835: Grounds Upkeep Officer in the Department of Campus Services

Tasks and Responsibilities

Reporting to the Manager (Campus Services) and is responsible for the Maintenance of the landscaping, roads and grounds surrounding a campus or building. Drainages, Paved areas, Plants, flowers, mows, pulls weeds, repairs structures, cleaning and maintains exterior of building.

Designs and draws detailed plans for the landscaping of new buildings and development of existing grounds, including relocation of drives, parking areas, and plantings to improve utility and beauty.
Prepares topographical maps of the campus’s grounds.
Ensure that all sporting facilities are in good conditions
Prepares quantity and cost estimates on proposed landscape projects.
Makes assignments to contractors in the development and care of extensive and elaborate grounds, i.e.
Perform grounds keeping and building maintenance duties. Mow lawn either by hand or using a riding lawnmower.

Cut lawn using hand, power or riding mower and trim and edge around walks, flower beds, and walls.

Landscape by planting flowers, grass, shrubs, and bushes.

Apply pesticide to rid grounds of pests such as mosquitoes, wasps, ticks, and others.

Apply fertilizer to ground to enhance growth.

Shovel snow from walkways and sprinkle ice down to keep people from falling.

Perform routine maintenance duties such as applying plaster, fixing fountains, and other duties.

Sweep walkway of debris.

Cut down tree limbs that are posing a danger. Trim shrubs and pull weeds.

Perform minor repairs and maintenance procedures on equipment utilized in grounds keeping.

Install lawn furniture.

Rake, mulch, and prune the grounds as needed. Install rock, cement, lighting, water, and furniture.

Water plants and grass as needed and apply fertilizer.

Arrange and conduct daily inspection to ensure that above activities are done.
Arrange and conduct two weekly progress meeting and take minutes thereon
Coordinate the works with other supervisors
Prepare check and approve interim certificates for payment of services providers per month
Issue instructions to services providers for remedial or variation
Coordinates the use and maintenance of grounds and greenhouse equipment. gratuitable for Locals and Contract for Non – Locals.

Minimum Qualifications and Requirements:

Minimum of any of the following: diploma in Architectural Technology, Civil engineering, Agricultural Engineering Land and Water, Water and Environmental Engineering;

2 to 3 years of relevant experience.

Must be computer literate in particular must know Ms excel.

Must know architectural drafting software

Skills:

Knowledge of the methods of caring for lawns, trees, shrubs, and flowers. Knowledge of modern principles and practices of landscape design.

Knowledge of soil conditions for the propagation of lawns, shrubs, trees, and flowers.

Knowledge of training and supervisory techniques and employee policies and procedures.

Team player and interpersonal skills

Special condition:

Must be able to work under pressure Work 24/7 hour

Must have driving licence

Remuneration:

The University offers salaries and other benefits commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Employment type:

Permanent and pensionable/gratuitable for Locals.
