Organizational Setting |
The objective of the Department of Nuclear Energy is to foster the efficient and safe use of nuclear power by supporting interested Member States in improving the performance of nuclear power plants, the nuclear fuel cycle, and the management of nuclear wastes; in catalysing innovation in nuclear power and fuel cycle technologies; in developing indigenous capabilities for national energy planning; in deploying new nuclear power plants; in preserving and disseminating nuclear information and knowledge; and in advancing science and industry through improved operation of research reactors. The Nuclear Information Section consists of the IAEA Library Unit, the International Nuclear Information System (INIS) Unit and the Systems Development and Support Group. It fosters the exchange of scientific and technical information on the peaceful use of nuclear science and technology; increases awareness in Member States of the importance of maintaining efficient and effective systems for managing such information; provides information services and support to Member States and to the IAEA; and assists with capacity building and training. |
Main purpose |
Under the guidance of the Head of the Nuclear Information Section (NIS), the INIS Coordinator supervises the work of the INIS Secretariat, and in collaboration with INIS Member States, and other stakeholders, ensures high level quality and quantity of input prepared for the INIS Collection. |
Role |
The INIS Coordinator is (1) a supervisor of the INIS Secretariat ensuring that corresponding project tasks are implemented effectively and efficiently; (2) a liaison officer cooperating with INIS national and international members regarding information processing quality and other technical issues; (3) an information specialistassisting INIS Member States with enhancing their information management capabilities, developing information processing guidelines, and providing training and technical support; (4) a knowledge managercoordinating work on the INIS Thesaurus which contains the controlled scientific terminology for the indexing of INIS documents; (5) a digital preservation specialist ensuring the application of preservation methods and techniques so that nuclear information remains accessible and usable in the long term; (6) a scientific secretary of the Consultative Meetings of INIS Liaison Officers; (7) an advisor to the Section Head on the improvement and innovation of information resource management, and information products and services; (8) an advocate for the implementation of the efficient and effective use of modern information management techniques. |
Partnerships |
The INIS Coordinator liaises with INIS Liaison Officers in Member States and international organizations, and cooperates with other information centres and repositories regarding input to the INIS Collection and capacity building. The INIS Coordinator works closely with other managers and members of the Nuclear Information Section, the Nuclear Energy Department, and other IAEA departments. |

Remuneration |
The IAEA offers an attractive remuneration package including a tax-free annual net base salary starting at US $67 611 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance), a variable post adjustment which currently amounts to US $42 257*, dependency benefits, rental subsidy, education grant,relocation and repatriation expenses; 6 weeks' annual vacation, home leave, pension plan and health insurance.
