Applications are invited from suitably qualified Lesotho Nationals for the above-mentioned position. The position is at the Head Office in Maseru. The incumbent will be responsible to the Managing Director.

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB

To assist the Board to effectively develop policy for achievement of Corporate goals and to also assist Executive Management to execute policy direction as mapped out by the Board by rendering advice on Governance and legal issues.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREA
The incumbent will be responsible to do the following duties amongst others:

• Heads the Company’s Legal Section by planning and developing strategies to manage and mitigate the Company’s Legal Risk exposure.
• Provides legal advice to the Board and Management.
• Leads and manages the litigation process on behalf of the Company.
• Through monitoring, ensures that the Company aligns itself with international best practices on Governance matters.
• Monitors Board Members to ensure that they execute their mandate within the prescribed statutory requirements.
• Participates in negotiations between LEC’s trading and business partners that have a bearing on the company’s Legal interests.
• Provides advice on the relevance of company policies with a view to ensure that they remain consistent with the national laws and applicable international protocols.
• Performs Secretarial functions of the Board.
• Acts as Compliance Officer.

PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES AND COMPETENCIES

• High level of integrity.
• Ability to work independently.
• A sound command of written and spoken English.
• Computer literacy is critical.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor of Laws (LLB); Masters in Corporate Law will be an added advantage.
• 5 years relevant experience in Corporate Secretarial duties, Legal Risk Administration, Contract drafting and the rendering of legal advice within a Corporate setting.
