Fleet Manager/Planner in the Operations & Workshop Department.

Matekane Transport and Plant Hire (Pty) Ltd invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for the position of Fleet Manager/Planner in the Operations & Workshop Department.

Qualifications: Diploma in Diesel Mechanics + Diploma in Auto Mechanics/Auto Electrician + Operations Management and 15 years relevant experience OR Any tertiary qualification in Fleet & Operations Management with atleast 10 years relevant experience. Attendance of Caterpillar Courses will be an added advantage

Competencies: Knowledge of Pastel Accounting or any accounting software used in fleet management, knowledge of fleet management tracking devices, knowledge of construction business, sound knowledge of fleet and operations management, good negotiation and communications skills, excellent coaching and leadership skills, excellent driving skills with a valid licence of at least 2 years

Purpose: To ensure the planning, management, administration, allocation, repair, service and maintenance of all fleet and machinery and to direct functions and activities related to procurement.

Major Duties and Responsibilities
-Develop fleet administration standards and vehicle and machinery operating policies
-Manage, administer and allocate the use of all fleet and machinery to different projects according to required daily needs
-Optimise the allocation and use of all fleet and machinery across all projects in consultation with the project managers/site agents
-Establish and maintain priorities and deadlines in the allocation of all fleet and machinery across all projects
-Ensure that all operations, licensing of all fleet and machinery comply with relevant legislation
-Develop a preventative maintenance plan which caters for both planned and unplanned maintenance
-Oversee see that all necessary parts and equipment are available for planned and unplanned maintenance
-Monitor repairs, service and maintenance of all fleet and machinery
-Manage the functions of the workshop manager and the store manager on all issues pertaining to procurement
-Advice management in the purchase and disposal of all fleet, machinery and other equipment
-Direct fleet related risk management training, such as safety and accident programs and be able to advice management on insurance matters
-Create manuals or circulars to keep employees informed about fleet programs
-Prepare weekly reviews of status of all fleet and machinery
-Advice management on irregularities in employee use of fleet and machinery
-Advice management on serious maintenance problems encountered
-Supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned personnel
-Prepare weekly and monthly reports reviews on all workshop functions
-Perform any other fleet management related duties that may be assigned from time to time as are given by any other Manager
