Main Purpose of the Job:
Reporting to the Security & Surveillance Manager, the incumbent will be responsible for managing all Health and Safety matters on the Hotels’ premises and advise Management on the ratification measures that should be implemented. 

Education, experience and competencies required: 
• Diploma in Health and Safety and Fire related Management qualifications (SAMTRAC and ITIS)
• Proven 3 - 5 years’ managerial experience in Health and Safety and Fire Prevention
• Sound knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and the legal implications
• Sound knowledge of incident investigation methods, administration and reporting of incidents as required by the OHS Act
• Computer literate: Windows, Word and Excel

Duties and responsibilities include:
• To implement and manage an effective ongoing Health and Safety and Fire prevention programmes
• To co-ordinate between Management and staff relating to any aspect concerning Health and Safety and Fire prevention, as well as advising them on ratification measures that should be implemented
• To conduct audits and inspections in the above mentioned field and report any deviations to Management
• Ensure that all aspects concerning the legislation of the current Occupational Health and Safety Act are adhered to
• To compile standards by which Health and Safety in the workplace can be measured on
• To conduct any accident / incident investigation and report to Management and the workman’s Compensation Commissioner
• To train Management and staff in the field of Health and Safety and Fire prevention
• To compile, train and co-ordinate emergency evacuation procedures and drills in conjunction with the local fire authorities
• To communicate constantly with Security Manager and liaise with all other departments and concessionaires regarding Health and Safety and Fire prevention matters
• To liaise with all other departments and ensure that all areas are safe and secure, especially for guests, staff and the assets of the company
• To monitor all emergency equipment, ensure that it is functioning properly and effectively and take corrective action where necessary
• To determine the optimum requirements of equipment and ensure its effectiveness
. To keep abreast of any developments in the Health and Safety and Fire prevention methods, technology and equipment
• To ensure the correct use and operation of all emergency equipment
• To ensure sound, accurate and systematic record keeping of all aspects of the Health and Safety and fire prevention programme as per Security Operations Policies and Procedures manual
• To ensure that all Health and Safety, Fire prevention and clinic contracts with outside agencies are maintained and any outstanding work required has been done according to required legislated standards
• To fully investigate the causes of accidents and / or incidents within the workplace ensuring that preventative action is correctly instituted
• To ensure that all accidents / incidents within the workplace are reported as per the Workman’s Compensation procedures
